Authors note: every time I've written on this it has been late at night, also, you are Lucille's sibling! Also no francÅur death yay
Summary: after you argue with Lucille about letting francÅur stay with you two, francÅur ends up living in your room, and you two become very close over the span of two years
It was a cold, rainy night in Paris, one where you and Lucille, your sister, were performing in front of a larger crowd than usual. Something that made this particular display of your talents nerve-racking was the soon to be Mayor, Mr. Maynot, observing the act from the best seat in the house. The two of you sang through it all flawlessly and the mayor-to-be was impressed with the whole performance.
Later that night after the show, Lucille and you were in your shared dress up room taking off your makeup and accessories, when you heard something pull on your doorbell handle. Going to investigate, you and your sister are met with a tall person who had their face obscured by a red scarf and a black chapeaux. The man nodded as you kindly let him in, and after hesitating for a while, uncovered his face. You and Lucille had been mistaken, having just accidentally invited in the monster on the newspaper reported to have terrorized children and elderly people alike.
Lucille almost shoved him outside then and there, but you grabbed her hands and pleaded with her, saying "Lucille, he may seem scary, but has he done anything to harm us besides showing himself?" She sighed and responded "No, but if he ever acts up, I'm reporting him to the police myself and making you watch. He, if this thing could even be named or gendered, will stay with you in your room tonight." You nodded, thanking her as you took the currently unnamed monster to your room.
As the monster entered your room, crouching through the entrance, you smiled and asked "Do you have a name, monsieur?" The monster solemnly shook his head before his eyes lit up, pointing at you, then himself. "You want me to name you?" You ask, receiving an eager nod from the seven foot tall flea in your room in response.
Over the span of half an hour, you and the monster kept going over and rejecting name ideas for him until one finally stuck, FrancÅur, meaning Honest Heart in French. He liked that name very much, a spark lighting in his eyes the first time he heard it from you. Was that spark from the name or the way you'd said it, not even he knew.
Over the span of a few weeks, you, francÅur, Lucille, and the people who had accidentally created the flea had become good friends, You and FrancÅur now having split the room in two and only getting fonder of each other, both insisting you were "just friends." This didn't stop the news from calling him a monster, though. Once word got around of who was guarding FrancÅur, Maynot was immediately on your trail.
He had came banging at the door at two in the morning. Lucille came to the door, only to be met with the barrel of a normal sized gun, held by the fattest ugliest candidate for mayor she'd ever seen. However , You had let the other members of the police force know that your flea friend was a total sweetheart, and shortly after Maynot started interrogating Lucille, his assistant got behind him and arrested him for premeditated murder, yay!
Speaking of the assistant, a few days later everyone was invited to a ball hosted by him, the new mayor now. Who was accompanying him? Lucille's another! Lucille, You, and, Emile all had tickets with the ability to bring a plus one on them. Obviously Lucille and Raul went together, and Emile brought Maud. Not wanting to leave anyone out (and having developed a little crush), you brought FrancÅur! During the event, a slow song came on, and he offered you his hand as if asking to dance. You took it, and danced for hours with him, to the point even Lucille was surprised at your endurance.
From then on, FrancÅur had gotten a lot more affectionate with you , trusting you completely since you'd saved him from a cold or painful death out in the streets of Paris. On the second anniversary you'd known him, in 1912, he knocked on your room door and held out a big bouquet to you. You almost cried by the sincerity of his actions, and knowing he meant what he implied, you nodded, letting him know you loved him.
One of my f/is (francÅur from a monster in Paris) has a voice actor who sings just like him and he has made love songs. He's singing them to me I swear its canon he loves me trust
Instead of working on an extremely important scholarship project, I spent the majority of last week needle felting a life-sized American Woodcock.
His name is Tim. Tim B. Doodle!
Edit: I already said all this in a reblog, but updates on Tim below the cut!
Yāall, I thank you SO much for all your kind comments on Tim over the past six months!! I never anticipated heād get this much attention; He got a decent amount of traction on the r/birding subreddit, but only for a few days. And on Instagram he got only 14 likes, so I really only posted him here on a whim⦠I didnāt think Iād be waking up to 100+ notes on this post every day, even half a year later haha
Anyway, I have been very busy over the past semester, and thereās quite a few updates related to Tim:
1.) Before the semester began, I made three more felt woodcocks⦠Hereās a picture of all of them together.
From the left, we have Tim, Philohela (has the best balance, Timās feet were way too small), Screwball (I rushed him too much and heās kinda wack lol), and Trilobite, a half-sized one who has become my pocket companion and emotional bedrock lately.
I plan to continue making more, Iāve already got another mini one in the works. Iām also gonna make a chick, soon, their babies are really cuteā¦
2.) It is with great pleasure (and a bit of sadness) that I must inform you I am no longer in possession of Tim.
See, I took a textile design class last semester, and for one of our projects, I made a series of prints that were hugely inspired by the work of one of the lead researchers on the American woodcock, Dr. Amber Roth, of the University of Maine. Her lab does a ton of research regarding the woodcock, and also the golden-winged warbler, both birds that depend on young hardwood forest, habitat which has been in severe decline lately. I decided to make prints which featured both birds alongside some wild berries which also grow in that habitat (theyāll be posted here soon)
After I finished that project, I ended up contacting Dr. Roth to share the designs with her; Her research helped me a ton with making them, so it felt only fair she should get to see them. I also shared the picture of Tim with her.
I was very nervous when I sent that initial email; But, not only did she respond, she loved them! Weāve been emailing back and forth since then, and guys, she is SO kind, itās really been the highlight of this academic year for me. Weāre going to have a video call soon so we can finally talk more face-to-face, which Iām very excited for!
Anyway, long story short: She adopted Tim! Here he is, being presented at my textile design final right before I shipped him out to her. The print on the fabric with him is one of the designs I made; She also paid me to make some bandanas for her to give her lab students for the holidays
Now, Tim B. Doodle will get to spend the rest of his days at her lab, where some of the best research on the American woodcock is being performed! Of course, Iām a bit sad to see him go, but Iām so glad he will be somewhere where he can be appreciated so much. I feel like a parent who just sent their kid off to college, hahaā¦
Of course, I still have three others with me, so I wonāt miss him too much!
3.) Iāve already posted a little bit of it on my blog, but Iāve made tons of other woodcock art this semester, and have more in the works! Alongside more felt ones, the larger projects include a pattern to make a woodcock plushie, and I also have plans for a woodcock costume (aka essentially a partial fursuit). Iāll definitely be posting updates about those projects, so stay tuned!
Again, thank yāall so much, all your lovely comments have been such a delight to read. I promise to continue spreading the good word of the timberdoodle from now on~
Hello, I'm sorry I didn't get to do the art yesterday, I'll do it tomorrow. I'll give the reason why below. Trigger warning for mentions of sexual abuse, family death, and mental decline
Recently, my rapist and his grandmother came over to help my family move out of the house. I still cannot forgive him no matter how much his grandma wants me to, because of the fact it happened for years. I was sent into a spiral from there, and I've been either unable to get up from my bed, or have been unmotivated to do my art because of this. I hate him, I will never consider him my brother, especially considering that our only connection, my mother, passed away years ago. I hurt myself yesterday because I was stuck acting buddy buddy with him for two while hours. I'm so happy I'm moving across the country and I'll never see him again
