Had to take my mom to the hospital today.
Slurred speech. TIA.
I'm so tired.
"Les Jardins de Nuit" (censored version) - Mixed media: colored pencils, pastels, ink, and gold leaf on paper. I created this artwork in 2020 for my book Forgotten Gods.
Been so busy lately.
Refinishing the deck for my mom (two weeks now), and for my dad too... It's been cathartic. Working on it. Wish I could've done it while he was still around, so he could've enjoyed smoking his weed and reading his paperbacks on a pretty "new" deck.
Also fixing up some old furniture, sanding and refinishing. Upcycling an old bookcase into a "new" bookcase for the kiddo... She wants me to paint animals on it. We'll see.
Cleared out my studio corner, got one of my dad's old shelves so now I actually have a place to put art supplies... Instead of just... Piled in boxes and inaccessible.
Puttering productively.
All while partner has been out hiking the Wonderland trail... For the past ... Two weeks? He comes home today and I'm looking forward to the "days off" when he can take over the kiddo and I can just... Ooof. Chill for a second. Haha
Also catsitting my brother-in-law's cat while he's moving to his new apartment. Data is unnerved there's another cat in the house... But so far they've just had stare-downs and yowling. No fights. I thought Data would be more of a jerk, but he's been pretty neutral. I'm optimistic we can maybe get a kitten next spring...!

Another pice for my 2027 wall calendar. Also available as art prints on Printler (EU-based shop) and Inprnt (USA-based shop + offers worldwide shipping).

Our neighbor visited and shared a prayer with us. Farsi is such a beautiful language. Crying just remembering her voice.
When my uncle's wife suggested I was "bottling"/"withholding" my feelings regarding my father's passing... And like... Kind of annoying to be told that by someone I'm meeting for the first time. Like I'm supposed to spill my heart out and cry to someone I don't know.
When I have friends back home I'd rather talk to about it all. Friends who don't wrap their responses in any flavor of woo or give me metaphysical lectures. Or expect me to emote a particular way.
Then I get to work and my boss' wife says good morning to me and sorry about my dad and gives me a hug and my eyes just fill with tears.
I'm just venting at a convenient target. It's all water under the bridge.
I guess the heart of it all is that I've been grieving him for years, because he was in decline for a while. Parkinsons eroding the man he was. So now that he's gone it's a weird relief. A mercy that it happened quickly.
Beautiful silvery coastline.
Finally heading north today. Excited.
While I've had fun on this trip... I'm also a bit homesick. I miss my partner. And my cat. And space for myself.
Oregon by next week. Mom and I decided to spend the last few days in an old family vacation spot, one where we went when I was a kid. For the sake of memories.
Then we're heading back to Washington in one big fat day of driving.
Windswept and in bloom.
