hime here! just to say that i'm dropping both libra and gerome whenever the official word goes through and leaving ferp. i love you all dearly, but i really don't have the muse i used to have and i'd rather not hoard spots when people who'll be more active than i might want them. idk if gerome is still there in a few months which i highly doubt, i'd be back in that spot in a heartbeat, but since that probably won't be the case you won't see me around. feel free to unfollow because i doubt i'm gonna delete my blogs for a while if at all. out of laziness, haha.

"Just a Risen in that last fight," Cynthia answered, wishing he didn’t see the blood and scratches. Nothing too serious; it looked worse than it was. "Really, Gerome, I’m fine."

Cynthia felt his hand slip down her arm, enjoying his touch until he removed it, trying not to feel like something had been stolen from her when he did. It was just a hand. It was just a hand. The smile… She really wished he smiled more often. At whoever. It didn’t matter who, didn’t matter if he sent those smiles at some other girl or guy or whoever. He had a nice one.

"Okay," she said, swallowing hard. "I’ll see you then," she stood up, and before she could stop herself, bent to kiss his cheek. For a long second she stopped entirely, then her eyes widened and she turned and ran off, towards her tent, red as a brick.

Gerome's lost in his thoughts, drowning, and before he knows it Cynthia is gone with the wind, the only indicator that she had been there being the scorching heat on his cheek. From her lips. Cynthia's lips. It was the real deal, holy shit.

He presses his hands to the spot, light and tentative, falling to his side on the log and rolling onto his back to look up at the sky.

Damn, he had it bad.

Cynthia’s smile grew even wider at the actual legitimate tiny smile holy crap. On most people it’d hardly be anything - but this was Gerome, Gerome who never smiled at anyone, much less her. Smiling; the type of smile that made her want to touch him, hold his hands or kiss him or something. 

There were boundaries, however, and Cynthia would respect them. “Hey, Gerome? Can I..” Cynthia stopped herself. “Would you mind if I joined you at dinner sometime?”

His hand slips from her shoulder and down, dancing off of her elbow and grazing her hand before sitting in his lap along with the other one, and the smile lingers, stays in his eyes even when his expression goes back to its default.

"I'd--" He has to make himself pause before he says something he shouldn't, boils over and messes everything up, between them. "I'd like that. I'd really like that." And I'd like to indulge myself with the rest of you, your smile, you voice, your everything, for as long as I'm alive, but...

Cynthia beamed back, tilting her head and letting her pigtail fall over her shoulder. She didn’t want to get up. She didn’t want him to get up. She wanted to sit here with Gerome in the cute almost smile he was giving, the flush on his cheeks having to be the heat, quiet and his hand on her arm. She wanted him touching her, as sappy as it sounds.

She wanted something to hang on to.

It was weird and wrong but gods, just give her this moment. She’s not asking for much.

Gerome tilts his head, just a little, so mystified by her radiance that the corners of his mouth lift into a maybe-smile. it's not much but it's probably something by both of their standards and his heart just swells with affection.

Why can't he say anything?

He can't wait forever and they certainly don't have forever, but each time he tries the words stick in his throat and die and he just-- can't.

And the thought makes him sad and furious at the same time but he's too weak to do anything about it.

Cynthia pulled her knees together as she sat down next to him on the log. She winced as he disinfected her arm, eyes screwing shut and biting her lip in pain. Ow ow ow that hurts!

“Ow,” she mumbled, breath hitching. “Ow, ow, ok.” Cynthia was well aware that it needed disinfecting. Still hurt like a bitch. Still, Cynthia watched his eyes grow relieved as he bandaged her arm, so happy and affectionate and sweet… Cynthia was getting pinked cheeked. 

He was a friend. A really close friend. But a friend was all she was to him, and she didn’t want to ruin that because she had liked him for so long. This was enough.

He mumbles another apology about the disinfectant, tying off the last of the bandages and giving her another once over to make sure he hadn't missed anything. "You're good. I hope." He almost-smiles, and pats Cynthia on a place of her arm that wasn't all wrapped up. It was so difficult to be around her when he didn't know what to say, didn't know how to say 'I love you and I want to probably spend the rest of my life with you even if it doesn't extend past this wretched war because you're amazing in every single way imaginable and--'

He had to stop himself. Because that's exact reason that it was so hard to articulate, and thinking about it made him flush a little, something that Cynthia was always sure to pick up on.

"It's... crossed my mind a few times, of course. But I've always pushed it away, not wanting to get caught up on future plans when I might not have a future in this timeline. Cynthia let him drag her along, partially because she knew he’d persist and partially because she liked his concern, liked him holding her hands and worried and concerned and touching her without her initiating it. She liked having him so close to her.

She watched as he frantically looked for first aid.

"Found it!" He shoos her out of the tent and follows suit, finding a log for them to sit down on so he could clean and dress these wounds. He takes the disinfectant and a piece of cloth he had found in the tent, wetting it graciously and swiping at the blood on her arms. "Sorry if it stings."

She had been right; they were much shallower than the blood had made it seem. But still. Small untreated wounds had the tendency to really fuck things up. He opens up the salve and scoops some up with two fingers, covering the wounds gratuitously before wiping the excess onto his armor. It washes off, no big deal. His eyes flood with relief as he starts the bandaging process, so so glad that she was okay, fairly uncharacteristic shows of affection be damned. He really cared about her.
