How inane. A rush of disappointment bubbles up from Izuru’s gut. They haven’t spoken in twelve years, and this is what Hajime wants to learn about? Colors? Even his classmates had more interesting questions for the Ultimate Copycat.
Still, Izuru agreed to this little game, so he will play it through. “Green.”
Hajime did not ask, so Izuru will not tell him about the Ultimate Gardener, one of the first talent tutors Izuru was gifted at age thirteen. The man took one look around Izuru’s research lab located deep within the underground bunker that Hope’s Peak Academy uses for its less than glorious experiments, and promptly decided they would have a field trip right after formal introductions.
Izuru began his Hope’s Peak career testing on nothing but theory, and for two years he spent ten hours a day within that small classroom reading and researching and reciting. The Ultimate Gardener brought him to the surface, led him to a patch of dead grass in the courtyard, and handed him a pair of gloves and a hand spade. Their sessions were spent on hands and knees under the later winter’s sun, pulling up weeds and digging through hard soil.
Izuru already understood the concept of plant biology, but to actually hold a matted root system in his hands, to dig and dig and dig through different horizons for a stubborn taproot, to displace insects while aerating the dirt and discuss their importance in plant health was… magical. Even before Izuru had the opportunity to grow anything, his mind was expanding with knowledge.
As they toiled into early spring, the Ultimate Gardener lectures drifted from simple biological processes such as water evaporation through leaves to more theoretical studies. Mother trees whose roots stretched deep within the Earth and spread the nutritional bounty to younger trees, regardless of species or descendants. The network of fungi hidden underneath their feet that “fix” nutrients and trade the excess for plants in exchange for sugars. Studies of how trees in one location experiencing disaster send pheromones through the air and root system to warn others of the oncoming danger.
It was the most in-depth education Izuru ever received at Hope’s Peak. More than just studying basic facts, more than solving basic problems, more than memorization and reciting and being poked and prodded, the Ultimate Gardener spoke to Izuru as an equal. They discussed and voiced theories and worked together until the entire courtyard was churned by their hands.
And one day, as they walked through the patches of dirt, Izuru noticed a sprout of green nestled within the dark brown soil. He did that. He facilitated life.
Eventually, they did move indoors back to Izuru’s lab for the sake of equipment and a reliable environment, but that moment never left Izuru. Green is still his favorite color all these years later.
Hajime has green eyes. This is probably irrelevant.
Hajime does not ask for specifics. He nods to himself as though a single word conveys all the meaning necessary for understanding. “Oh, cool. Your turn.”

Can't wait to see what August has to bring!

Kaito wants to kiss Yuuma, and isn't that pathetic? Yuuma is an ignorant little kid, as excitable and obnoxious as he is stupid. Kaito doesn't even know why he bothers meeting up with Yuuma weekly when neither of their fathers, their only true connection, are around.
He still wants to reach out and kiss Yuuma.
Kaito discovers that he hates himself more and more every day.
Chris has always been condescending like this, even when they were close-but-not-friendly, and logically Kaito knows Chris isn't trying to be hurtful, he's just stressed and his only coping mechanism is to pretend to be superior while putting everyone at arms length, but it fucking *burns.* Kaito isn't just anyone. Kaito is Chris' childhood companion, the one he confided in when his father lost the plot and his little brothers were sent to an orphanage. Kaito is the only one who understood Chris' desires to prove himself worthy, while also capable of matching Chris' intelligence. Kaito is the only one to remain by his side when the rest of the community dismissed and ridiculed his outlandish theories. Kaito fucking deserves better.
The alien's eyes narrow into slits, observing them. The glass containment cell doesn't prevent light or noise from entering, so depending on the sensitivity to photons and sound waves, it likely sees and hears everything. In even the wildest of Chris' plans, he never dreamed of finding an alien on earth, and Kaito is hit with the sudden realization that this is going to bite them in the ass. Kidnapping aside, the alien is capable of speaking and understanding Japanese. It knows what they're saying. If it's smart, it will use then tension between Kaito and Chris to its advantage.
Mars and Jupiter always said he should air out thoughts to a trusted confidant, that letting out the negativity would help him feel less chained down. Instead, Cyrus feels heavier, like stones have been placed in his gut and he's been pushed into the ocean. His lungs constrict and he knows he's going to drown. Whats the point of trying to surface? Flailing is useless. He deserves this.
Cyrus can't fathom what encouraged him to be honest with Archie, but it doesn't help alleviate the emptiness inside of him. Is this what it means to yearn for human connection? To desire understand?
Whatever it is, it only compounds the ache in his bones. Archie didn't understand that there is nothing left for Cyrus back home. No one will be able to comprehend what it means to spend nine years in the dark emptiness of Cyrus' failings. To be the last living being, cursed to forever watch what could have been, if only Cyrus hadn't fucked everything up.
No, Cyrus revealed his deepest sin to Archie, and the man didn't understand. Alongside Dawn, Cyrus murdered any chance at forgiveness.
There are three truths to this world: pokemon become stronger in the presence of humans, homemade food tastes best when prepared by others, and everyone gets their soulmark when they turn eleven.
Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. The legendary pokemon themselves, for example, contain the power to reverse time or level mountains, yet blessedly prefer to keep themselves hidden to all but those deemed worthy. * *todo 1 more example**
And Sakaki Giovanni does not have a soulmate.
Correction: the human soul always follows its other half, as one cannot survive without the other. And, upon the eleventh hour of a child's eleventh birthday, if their soulmate is not currently on Earth, their soul rejects their body and returns to the Cycle to try again. It's a blessing, for a child to die surrounded by the people they love as their half-soul slips away, because then no one will ever suffer growing up without their perfect match, their soul and body slowly rejecting each other until they wither away and death is a mercy.
Sakaki Giovanni does not have a soulmate. Perhaps his soulmate died too soon. Perhaps he killed them himself, eliminating a weakness before it became a threat. Perhaps the Sakaki's are simply divine, humanity's final destination of a single, whole soul, two halves stitches together and resonating with every beat of the heart.
Giovanni hears the whispers behind his back, the awe and fear in his underlings' expressions when they catch a glimpse of the smooth, empty skin on the pulse point of his wrist. Some of them look at him with pity, making them easier to manipulate. The fools who admire Giovanni, who believe Giovanni will free humanity from the shackles of an unfair fate, are dispersed to spread the good word about Rocket. And those whose faces twist in disgust are quickly terminated.
Mama taught Giovanni well. He couldn't lure in potential suitors with a flash of a generic Mark and them rob them of all worldly possessions as she did in order to build her fortune, but by his eleventh birthday, the Sakakis are already loaded. No, the Sakaki matriarch saw this as an opportunity to cement her sons role as the heir to Rocket. Without a soulmate, Giovanni is *better* than the groveling peons.
Mama is the only other person alive that knows the truth: for a brief moment on the eleventh hour of Giovanni's eleventh birthday, for exactly eleven seconds (not that anyone was counting), her son *did* have a other half. His mark of thin black lines swirling in intricate patterns was a sight to behold. And then, in an instant, the ink absorbed back into his skin. Not faded as hers had become, a sign that her other soul had returned to the Cycle without her, but gone. Vanished. Like it was never there to begin with.
Another parent may have looked upon their abomination in shock and horror. Another parent may have taken drastic action to return the half-soul to the Cycle, forcibly with dirtied hands. Mama Sakaki did neither.
