A lot of western cultures have made "showing affection" and "close physical contact" something expected only in romantic relationships and parent-young!child relationships, ESPECIALLY with men. So much so that psychologists are starting to call it a major problem! Humans are social animals who need bonding time, and many cultures around the world are WAY more open to purely platonic affection and contact with no expectation of romance, and have healthier relationships because of it!
