Despite looking and sometimes acting younger, Haley and Lexi were around the same age. Which meant they protected each other the same and looked out for each other the same. Or so, at least they had, when it mattered most. For Haley, now was one of those “matters-most” times. She knew how pure-hearted Lexi could be. And how she aimed to fix anything or anyone that she may have thought were broken. Which sometimes didn’t always work out. Haley learned after awhile, that it was better to check the situation out for herself. Just in case. Besides, she was also super curious to see this mystery man who made her maker incredibly happy. It was a good look on Lexi, the way Sam made her feel, and a look Haley hoped would last because no one deserved it more. However, Haley still had her reservations. Which was why she had tracked down Sam herself, arriving at the bar where she was told he worked nearly every evening.
“Hey there, Lumberjack!” Haley called out shamelessly, greeting the tall, long-haired giant tending bar. He was wearing plaid, which Lexi had warned Haley was all he owned as far as wardrobe choices went. Which to be honest....Haley aimed to change, one day. No friends of hers would be caught dead in it. “A friend of mine told me you’d be here. I think you know her. Blonde bombshell. Tall. Smart. Super nice. Her name rhymes with Sexi.”

When Haley passed up elaborating on the details of her stress-filled day, Stevie made no matter of taking the context into account. "Good, `cause I didn’t really wanna listen either.“ He put it simply; in a way that made it seem like he was joking, despite being completely honest within the answer. By force of habit, Stevie had already lit up a cigarette; which he stood lazed and occupied with until finding an envelope waving before him. He examined it, taking the letter off her hands with his cigarette hanging loose in the other hand. "It’s from Clarion— that can’t be good…” Stevie mused aloud, ripping it open with a silver butter knife handy behind the bar.
He divided his attentions between the content inside the envelope, and tuning into hearing Haley. When Stevie finished, he caught the last bit; words that uninhibitedly demanded one to their full focus. He looked up to Haley with a cheeky cross-examination, merely just messing around just to get a rise out of her. “Looks like your luck’s changing—” Stevie proposed, handing her what appeared to be an invitation to an exclusive ‘vampires-only’ party going on tonight. “You’re itching for a boost, I’m short of a sidekick who lives up to a good time…” He finished with both arms stretched out, “It’s happening.”
His honesty, however indecent it may have sounded to other people, simply amused her. She didn’t wanna talk and he didn’t wanna listen. Some might call that a good match. And it may have explained why their friendship continued to blossom. They seemed to have shared the same philosophies when it came down to the topic of fun. Less chatting, more doing. The invitation, whether she realized it or not, was just the ticket she was hoping for only hours ago. Not only was it a vampire party (which she assumed meant there would be a blood-buffet) but, it got her out of her apartment. Away from Lexi’s watchful eye. “Hmm,” Haley hummed as she examined the invitation. It wasn’t necessary. He had her at the words “a good time.” That was just about all the convincing she needed.
After peering up at the clock, she noticed the party had already started. Which meant they were well on their way to arriving fashionably late. Meaning all the good people would be there by the time they surfaced. “Well boss, let’s go.” Haley spun away from him with grace, letting the sound of her heels clicking against the marble floors lead their way.
- LATER - They arrived at the party being held at some rich guy’s mansion in the Clarion Loess District, only to find an influx of vampires and their human slaves or pets. Whatever you wanted to call them. Just the smell as they entered was enough to entice and intoxicate her. To be honest, Haley couldn’t remember the last time she fed on an actual human. She didn’t like to do so around her family. She felt too much like they were judging her and it ruined the whole experience. “Mm, yummy,” Haley trilled on, as she fell behind a pretty, human guest who’s hair was tied up in a fancy bun, exposing her long, lean neck. One hand traced the curve along the back of her shoulderblade as Haley inhaled her scent. The feeding frenzy taking place all around them was just the signal she needed to take a bite. Which she wasted no time doing after momentarily locking eyes with Stevie. The look she gave him was enough to silently convey that he take a whiff as well and maybe even have a bite himself. Or not… Either way, she couldn’t wait. The fangs she kept hidden ‘at the office’ extended as the veins around her eyes swelled. There was the slightest hint of a moan as she sank her teeth into the woman’s neck, and drew blood from her pulse; drinking in her essence. The sensation was truly electrifying. Better than that first sip of a martini after a long day’s work or even sex with a handsome, exotic stranger.

Stevie was always thrilled to find the familiar face sitting on the opposite side of his bar. He and Haley had grown close since she began working in the hotel. A distributor of the fancy, upscale clothing, or something of that nature. Lady stuff. As he would put it. Whenever he needed a favor, Haley had somehow taken on the role of his confidant. A person who he trusted to have his back when he fucked up, as well as someone who wouldn’t judge him in the slightest for making careless mistakes. Stevie had valued that, and for the very first time, befriended a girl long /before/ getting into bed with her. And still hadn’t, he might add. “Right on time-” for happy hour. He swerved in from one edge of the bar, greeting her with none other than a classic Evans smile. “Rough day at the office?” He joked, referring to the fact that Haley’s big boss had visited the hotel today. As the General Manager, he knew all the operations going on in the hotel, including the shoppes. While Haley was usually the representative face of the boutique, she had someone to answer to, just as Stevie did with his position. Something they both understood mutually. Being In a good place, but not quite at the top like they both felt they deserved. “I heard the higher ups paid a visit…” Stevie presented her with her drink.
Though some days felt gruelling work wise (like today), Haley actually didn't mind it. She realized not many people could say they were doing something they loved or were passionate about. Fashion (whether selling it or designing it) had always come naturally to her. She was good at it and she took great pride in her work. It was the business aspect that stressed her out and therefore led her here, to the bar, where tequila awaited. "I don't wanna talk about it," She groaned playfully. What she really wanted to do was take the night off. And hopefully unleash the wild party girl who had been kept quiet for too long as she let loose for a few hours. You know.. until she was too drunk to stand or remember her own name. Whichever came first. "
Oh!" She chimed in after another minute or so had passed her by. Haley held up a finger, signaling him to hold on as she dug into her bag for an envelope with his name printed across the front, "This came for you. It got mixed in with all the other mail again. Either the new delivery boy can't read or someone is setting this up on purpose." She was teasing him, of course. Though Haley did find it a little bit odd. It stopped being a coincidence after the third time it happened. "Maybe after you open it, you'll join me. It's been awhile since I've been able to play hard with someone other than myself." Haley took a moment to let her recent confession sink in before she shook her head at the shamefully-mortifying inneundo. Which, to be honest, still fit her. "You know what I mean."
Lexi shook her head, rolling her eyes at the words coming from Haley’s mouth. If Lee and her had proven the girl anything, it was that immortality was no place to settle down, nor did anyone have the time for it. Sure, hell was full of species who wanted another chance of love, but for how long? While earth offered a few centuries, they had fallen somewhere that promising forever could really come true. And given Lexi’s past, she knew very well she couldn’t fix someone forever.
“I need to start dating real men so that you learn to settle down,” she contradicted the thoughts running through her head, slightly wanting something more for her sister. “But, if you’re going to go shopping, make sure to try them all on for size,” Lexi winked before taking another large bite out of the sandwich in her hand. If anyone was going to win the heart of her sister, he was going to have to be even more than tall, dark, and handsome. There were no exceptions when it came to Haley, men included.
“Now,” she pointed a finger, still chewing the food in her mouth. “When did you get so nosey?!” Lexi laughed, setting the sandwich down. “Well, if you have to know,” her voice lingered on, squishing her face with both hands with excitement. “I met this total hunk who just so happens to have brother troubles, so,” her shoulders shrugged. “This blonde has definitely signed up to help this tall and broody hunter find his way back to his family, and,” she laughed with another wink. “Potentially a few other places in between.”
The whole concept of “forever” was completely different as a vampire. When someone talked about forever with you as a vampire, they truly meant it. It was much easier to throw that word around when you were fragile. Haley never wanted to admit it but the idea of being stuck in a relationship with someone for eternity was quite scary. And she wasn’t sure she could ever commit to that. It was too much pressure. And she liked playing the field. That’s what being young and pretty was all about.
“Well, let me know when you find one,” Haley joked. She wasn’t insulting Lexi’s taste in men. It was more of a general statement. Real “men” were hard to come by. For so long, they’ve both just dabbled in a mistake-infested sea of boy. “Hey!” Haley cheered, as she snapped back into the present moment. She took a few more bites of her sandwich before sliding the rest of it into the trash. “I like the whole shop reference. Further proof that you just get me.”
With a gleeful smirk, Haley then gave a shrug. “Since I died and became deprived of my People Magazine subscription. How does anyone stay in the loop without wifi or cell phones? When I want gossip, I literally have to go outside and practically orchestrate a whole scavenger hunt just to find it.” Gossip was Haley’s own personal guilty pleasure. Drama was so much better when it wasn’t her own. “So, essentially Stefan’s off the hook now? Does this broody hunter have a name? And can I meet him? -- I won’t have much of an opinion until I see him face to face. Please tell me he’s cute though. And at least dresses nice. Either way, it’s much better than constantly revisiting the Lee pool. -- Which for the record.... totally isn’t over. You two forget I have vamp-hearing.”
