If anyone has not yet had the pleasure, I highly recommend checking out Mark Cousins' 12-Part documentary series The Story of Film: An Odyssey. For you Buster-philes, he covers Keaton's career in some great detail as part of Episode Two (linked above), but overall it's a very enthralling series.

In portraits, though supremely photogenic, he doesn’t give himself to the camera the way Garbo did. It is here, not in his lucidly expressive film acting, that his face functions as a mask. He looks like what Orson Welles called him, “a man of secrets”.
