#there's clearly some time between the images but god the juxtaposition is hilarious

so I've seen a lot of ppl upset about how every time a cast member acknowledges destiel ppl treat it as confirmation/validation and while I agree that we don't need validation beyond the very queer text itself, it absolutely makes sense that a lot of us feel an emotional need for it given the sheer level of gaslighting we've been subjected to. I think this rings especially true for those of us on the younger side who grew up in xtian environments where we were taught that confirmation from authority figures was absolutely necessary if we were going to believe something. If that's your childhood and you haven't had the time/space to grow out of those patterns AND you've been bombarded by ppl denying your interpretation of a text that affirms you in your marginalized identity, OF COURSE you're going to want validation from ppl you're societally conditioned to see as authority figures and I don't think you should be vilified for that. Instead of attacking each other for really human responses I think it'd be great if we focused our efforts on undoing the damage that gaslighting has done and just. extending kindness and empathy rather than judgment.
