WHENEVER edward picked up a book , the world around him would cease to exist ; the only things processing for him were the words he was reading , for the most part . every now &&. then the aroma of his coffee ( or realizing he was getting tired enough to start zoning out ) would entice him away long enough to take just a quick sip , but then it was right back to work .
it wasn’t bad , though . he never disliked this sort of thing . tended to get incredibly antsy if he didn’t have his mind occupied - typically with learning , or studying , or coursework . the homework was what he liked least ; he was more than content with absorbing the lessons &&. then doing his own studying , which helped him remember more than any coursework did .
but due to his preference for his usual daily routine , a rather sour look would cross his face as a bubbly stranger would all but crash into his personal space . ( she really wasn’t that close - but if he was using a table to study , books , papers &&. various drinks containing caffeine strewn about , anywhere at the table happened to be too close . ) a heavy sigh would leave his lips before anything else .
❝ IF you hadn’t buttered me up by sayin’ a whole buncha people are talkin’ about me , i’d just tell you to get LOST . so you’re pretty lucky , girl . ❞ refrains from using her name even though she’s already given it , &&. doesn’t directly answer her question , either .
❝ I DUNNO if you took a look around – ❞ briefly motions around the table with one hand while a pencil idly twirled in the other , ❝ - but i’m kinda in the middle of somethin’ here . you’re gonna have to offer more than flattery if ya want a favor . i don’t do things for free . ❞
HE WASN’T SAYING NO — that was the first thing she considered as he spoke . not that he’d said yes , either , but this was one step closer . hardly fazed in the slightest by his attitude , her smile remained , offering a quick , excited nod .
but of course , that led her to another realization . she doesn’t really know what to OFFER him . wasn’t like she had a lot of money . had a part - time job , but that didn’t mean she had that much extra to spend on tutoring . after all , if she did , she would have gone to an actual tutor .
that didn’t mean this would be IMPOSSIBLE , though , right ? she had skills . maybe she could make a deal with him . not that she knew anything about him other than his general appearance && the fact that he was incredible at chemistry . but he's also a student , && she could at least try to guess what he might want from there . tried to think back to what she’d heard others talking about around campus . the general complaints .
whatever she had to offer , though , it would be after a long moment that she’d realize she should probably at least tell him what she wanted , even if he didn’t ask . “ RIGHT , of course . see , i need help with chemistry because i’m — kind of failing — && i know it’s not fair to ask for help for FREE , but i don’t exactly — have a lot of extra cash right now , so maybe we could make a deal ? i mean — i have skills , too , so — ” hesitation , bright , green eyes narrowed slightly as if trying to read his mind . not that she had any such powers . “ maybe i could cook for you ! or clean ! or help you get into cool parties ! or if you need anything sewn up ! not to brag but i’m pretty good at housework ! ”
then a deep breath , warm , hopeful smile still painted across her lips as she’d look back to him — anxiously shifting from one foot to the other . “ PLEASE ? i know you’re busy , && it doesn’t need to be right now , but i really , really need to pass this class . ”
