‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Live-Action Series Set at Netflix

Netflix has ordered a live-action series based on “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” The new show hails from the original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

“When writer/producer/actress Melissa Riveria came to me with Sexless, I first asked how we could show the condition of Vaginismus and not just talk about it in the film.  She came back to me with wonderfully surreal images that informed the story and brought me fully on board with the project, in particular, the reality of Vaginismus as a physiological response in the body struck me, like trying to stab your eye with a pencil - You can't help but blink. Your body must shut to protect itself. Vaginismus works the same way as a physiological response, the condition protects women from psychological pain and requires much self work to truly heal, an internal journey that we had to find a way to show dramatically on screen.”

Mother of George (’13) By Whitney Anderson

Within the first few minutes of Andrew Dosunmu’s MOTHER OF GEORGE (’13), it’s easy to see why the film’s cinematography took first place at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Bradford Young uses beautiful lighting and striking colors to paint the cinematic canvas for this sweet love story that soon turns sour.

Fans of BLACK PANTHER (’18) and The Walking Dead will recognize Danai Gurira and take great joy in watching her portray a woman torn between tradition and personal morals, when fertility issues arise and unsettle the newlywed’s thoughts of happily ever after.

From the Nigerian wedding ceremony to the vivid cultural dress juxtaposed against the gritty streets of Brooklyn, where the couple moves after marriage, two worlds collide and transpose in Dosunmu’s film.

In many ways the camera angles, tight framing, close-up shots and overall cinematography are reminiscent of the work of director Hype Williams (BELLY, ‘98) and cinematographer James Laxton (MOONLIGHT, ‘16).

'Antibirth' – it took me a minute to catch on to the film's intended tone. But once I did, I couldn't help but enjoy watching the trippy (and often hilarious) journey of a troubled woman who discovers something dark and otherworldly is gestating inside of her.

'American Animals' – an anxiety-inducing exploration of desperation, causation, and the inherent impossibility of objective truth. Would highly recommend to fans of crime, drama, and black comedy.
