ANYTHING ELSE:
Grew up making short films with their friends and entering them into film competitions
Their pride and joy was making a short film called “Eighth Grade” starring their sister (WANTED CONNECTION PLEASE GIVE ME THIS).
A millionaire producer attended that film competition when Storm was 17, saw the talent in them and gave them a hollywood budget to actually produce the full length version of Eighth Grade.
The film premiered at sundance and got Storm nationwide acclaim. Now, with their name out there and more producers wanting to give them money, they started doing more experimental films and finally got into their stride.
In 2013 they released Rushmore, starting to get into their style and taking inspiration from Catcher in the Rye. For this, they received their first Oscar nomination for best original screenplay, which only encouraged them to lean more into their style
They wrote and directed The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and even directing an animated film based on one of their favorite kids books Fantastic Mr. Fox, gaining more recognition and nominations
It all came to a head when Storm finally mixed their unique style with their understanding of children, and wrote and directed Moonrise Kingdom. For this, they became the youngest person to ever win Best Director at 24.
They have since done one more film, another animated feature called Isle of Dogs to relative success.
They’re currently working on what they think could be their magnum opus, enough to win best director AND best film.
Throughout their career, they’ve had a very conflicting reputation. They’re known as a brilliant director, incredibly easy to work with and completely professional, if not a bit out there. But they’re also known as a huge party animal, having been on the cover of some trash magazines for some of their escapades.
Has had many different hair colors but is currently loving purple
