We met by chance
Two souls travelling side by side, but never quite intersecting
Until we did
Until your smile decorated my nights
And the cacophony of our laughter became my sound track
We rode through the town, leaving trails of ourselves everywhere we went.
Sharing our joy with the luckiest of strangers
Side by side, our lives intersected and intertwined
I never imagined leaving your side
Until I did
Until the distance became my new sorrow
Our joy stretched across an ocean
Still my heart is tethered to yours,
Waiting to intersect once again
To my soul mate, my best friend.
“What will you do when darkness takes over all of me? Will you run away from me? Or will you stay and reach out to me, to save me? Will you detest me? Or will you love me like I am still the light at the end of your tunnel?”
— Lukas W. // Will you hate my darkness?
My tummy doesn’t have to be cute. It holds my internal organs. My thighs don’t have to “crush men’s skulls”. I use them to carry myself. My stretch marks don’t have to be tiger stripes I earned. They came when I grew.
Stop.
feeling this
This!
I feel like even body positivity is too focused on, like, the appearance of the body. I know I became a whole lot happier with my body when I started thinking of it less in terms of how it looked (to me or anyone else) and realized, that, like…
When I feel cool breeze on my skin on a really hot day, my body did that for me.
When I step into a bath after a hike, and my muscles ache, but in a good way, and the steam all around me makes me feel like a flower blooming, my body did that for me.
And the hike before it, and standing on a large rock breathing the raw winter air seeing the power of the half-frozen river. That too.
When I’ve had a plate of pasta puttanesca, and I chopped and sauteed the ingredients and now I’m full-but-not-uncomfortable, and warm all over, and perfectly content, my body did that for me.
My body doesn’t have to look awesome to be awesome. It’s awesome because it’s where I live.
Best comment.
“I won’t say it wasn’t meant to be, because it was. We were. Only for a short while, maybe. But we were.”

honestly i think the most validating thing ive ever heard was “good parents don’t have to try to convince their children they weren’t abused” so yknow. remember that.
hocus pocus i cant focus
So I work at a video game store in a mall and across the hall from us is this really nice suit shop. One day one of the guys came in an asked if they could use our microwave (the store they used to go to closed down) and we bargined for use of their bathroom in return since the mall bathrooms are like a 5 min trek.
So for like three months now we just have these men in really nice suits come in and talk while using our microwave and teach them about nerdy shit? Then I, the goblin king in various shitty tee shirts and paint stained pants, walk into their super expensive store and just get greeted with “Yo dude what’s good?” and talk about the pains of steaming silken dress shirts properly and it’s my favorite business interaction every day
A new jewelry store opened up right next to our store and when I used the bathroom today we were talking about it. I hate it on principle (they flooded our systems closet during building) and immediately both Suit Guys™ working went on mini rants. “Their suits are baggy as hell, I wouldn’t trust them to sell me a $9,000 ring when they can’t get a fitted jacket. They look so unprofessional, ” and “I saw one of the dude’s wearing a teal shirt. It’s fall, and you go with teal? At least get a color to match your store if you’re gonna ignore the seasons like that, Christ, but teal is awful.”
I live for this commentary fam.
#flower shop/tattoo artist au is out #suit shop/nerd store au is in
I told the guys (Teal Man is Spencer and Baggy-Suits Guy is Arnold) that this post got this popular and they’re both super excited.
Arnold: “Sweet, we’re internet famous!”
Spencer: “131,000?!”
Arnold: “What are notes? What does that mean, is that good?”
Arnold bargined that if it gets more notes, I can A: post a pic of them crouching with peace signs in front of the Notorious Jewelry Store and B: post the video of him long boarding down to Macy’s and back lmaoooo
get crackin’ friendos
I was wondering, since you seem to be quite knowledgeable about dog things, what do you think of "adopt don't shop"
It’s garbage!!!!!!!
It’s tragic, but pet homelessness and shelter euthanasia isn’t really a numbers problem. The underlying issues are varied and complex (including shelter and rescue management and regional differences), but at the end of the day, one of the biggest issues has to be the disconnect between the dogs that are available and what prospective adopters are looking for.
Many dogs in rescues and shelters have temperaments or undesirable behaviors that will make them poorly suited for many adoptive homes. This includes a lot of high energy dogs, undersocialized dogs, or dogs with resource guarding and/or reactivity issues (even potentially treatable ones). This will also include dogs of disproportionately represented breeds or dogs with special medical needs.
There are many wonderful adopters who absolutely would be happy with one of those dogs, but not enough to meet the need that exists.
Given this, dog welfare will always, always benefit from good breeders who are:
breeding temperamentally and physically sound dogs
who are establishing strong foundations in their pups’ early lives and socializing them in a way that will serve them well into adulthood
who make a lifetime commitment to their dogs’ wellbeing (especially when this means taking a dog back if a buyer is suddenly unable or unwilling to care for it)
Put together, these things drastically minimize the likelihood of those dogs ending up as a pet homelessness statistic (or as a dog bite statistic….or as one of the uncalculated number of frustrated, miserable dogs whose needs are quietly going unmet).
I would rather see someone get a dog from a breeder that fits their lifestyle, than see someone rescue a dog that doesn’t. I have known many wonderful, kind people who take on shelter dogs with sad stories and end up in over their heads with an unhappy dog. Who does that help? Is that really a rescue?
A final note: “adopt don’t shop” rhetoric tends to paint all shelters and rescues as being benevolent and trustworthy. The majority are, but some really are not, and I would love to see more conversations about unethical rescues in addition to unethical breeders.
#tbh i also think there are conversations to be had about race + class + dog rescue #and the frequency with which dog rescue looks like ‘going into Scary Brown Neighborhoods and taking dogs back to white suburbs’ #or focusing only on rescue after the fact instead of trying to help with the poverty + other human conditions that contribute to pet homelessness #AND SOME OTHER THINGS #i’ve seen people freak about service dog orgs/guide dog schools having breeding colonies and like. wyd

“I cannot bring myself to hate you. We held hands in our darkest hour. Shared kisses . Held our hearts like a fragile flower. As we tattooed our secrets underneath our skin. For I loved you once. That is something I will always remember.”
