the things about tornadoes i learned so far

the largest tornado was 2.6 miles wide and was rated EF3(the el reno 2013)

the deadliest tornado killed approximately 1300 people in 1989

the 1997 jarrell tornado was one of the first depictions of a so-called "dead man walking"(the two vortexes rotating created an effect of a walking tornado)

the joplin 2011 ef5 tornado caused "butterfly people", the nature of which remain unknown. some saw angels, which are thought to be caused by mass hysteria. some said that these were people who were literally skinned alive, and those "wings" were the skin.

the el reno 2013 is believed to be the first tornado to kill storm chasers

the tornado can grow from ef0 to ef5 in a matter of minutes

the longest tornado(or a series) lasted 3.5 hours

the tornadoes are fast as hell(the record for the highest forward speed is 75 mph or 121 kph)

the highest peak wind speed of 321 mph(517 kph) was achieved by bridge creek-moore 1999 tornado

also once went to a memorial for the joplin 2011 ef5 tornado and read about the butterfly people. It was very interesting. The memorial itself was a butterfly garden.

I’m going to school at OU next semester!! I want to be a meteorologist (as you might have already guessed lol). It’s located on Reuter road, west of OKC, where their car was found.

Also, what do you want to know? I know stuff about old tornadoes, new tornadoes, well-known, and forgotten ones. Be warned, I am terrible at remembering names, so I may have to search stuff up to remember what towns they hit if it was a more forgotten one

I’m not completely sure. I really want to expand my knowledge on tornadoes but it’s hard because I’m always focusing on school subjects and sadly nothing of it has anything to do with tornadoes. Do you have any resources you use to find information on this stuff? I kind of just hop around on random sites when I’m bored but I don’t think it’s really doing anything.

Ah, Midwestern summers: where tornado warnings are sometimes your morning alarm clock

The sirens in my neighborhood only whent off after we had a confirmed tornado touchdown and half an hour after weather app sent a notification to shelter. This is the direct result of DOGE defunding and dismantling the government. It feels like it was a while ago and irrelevant now, but this puts people’s lives at risk. I wouldn’t have been sheltering if my parents hadn’t come home early to tell me there was a tornado.

Weather reports save lives. They aren’t a luxury;they are providing lifesaving information to communities in need. By defunding and dismantling the National weather service, people’s lives are put at risk.

Fuck Elon musk. Fuck trump. Fuck these RINOs destroying our country and rolling back everything protecting Americans in our country. Fuck them and their dictatorial aspirations.

This is a severe storm. The whole front is hooks (potential tornados). This is way worse than we have ready seen before, in part because of climate change as the climate change prevention and mitigation measures that were put in place decades ago being recalled.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the storm chaser stigma that claims storm chasers want tornadoes to form. I think it’s more: you don’t want the tornado to form, you just wanna be there when it happens
