Are you the best parent that you can be? Self work is the most difficult work, if youre not willing to do it you will find that your children will suffer from the same charcter flaws, bad habits economic struggles etc as you. Before you find fault with your child (no matter how young or old) ask yourself - - what is the example that I have set? Our children are a direct reflection of us and the people we surround ourselves with.

To loc or not to loc. Many people misunderstand the dreadloc journey - - thinking it is about a style rather than a spiritual experience. For me locing my hair would be a reminder to myself of my mental freedom - especially when it comes to beauty standards. My first set of locs i was extremely unprepared and acted on impulse. The second set was freeform and sort of my personal proof that i could disregard the American/European ideal of well manicured/ straight hair. It was especially important to me bc i was rocking them on an ivy league campus. It eventually occurred to me that i was binded by the exact thing that was supposed to liberate me. I was doing it āto proveā something rather than to grow myself or be myself. Still it was an amazing growing experience and i would like to loc again for the right reasons. I know most people don't think this deeply about hair. But I believe, images are powerful and we choose our hair styles based on the power we believe a look will grant us. A special Thanks to all those who inspire me with their beautiful locs.
