I realize that the betrothal necklace doesn't work that way and it's obviously a proposal as soon as the significant other receives it, but we ignore this here. Because it's Zuko. He surely "didn't know about that", right?? (ofc he did)

Li(oc) x Toph drabble Takes place right after the defeat of Ozai
The war was finally over, the Fire Lord was defeated and everything could begin to heal and be fixed.
Li paced back and forth, constantly looking into the distance searching for someone. Her gaze fell to the ground, kicking a small pebble as she paced. In the distance, footsteps. Lis head shoots up, following the sound of the footsteps.
Toph. Along with Suki and sokka.
Banged up but alive,
Lis gaze immediately falls onto the group walking back. She immediately runs over to Toph, her arms wrapping around her in a tight embrace.
"Toph!! You're Ok! I was so worried!" She says, her voice shaky, but relieved. She hugs Toph close, Toph returning the hug with a small smile.
"Yeah we're okay too, thanks for asking." sokka called out, standing only feet away from Toph.
"Yeah— sunshine, I'm fine." She chuckles, pushing away from the hug. She could feel Lis racing heartbeat under her feet. She let's out a huff, staying close to Li as she contained to babble on, her arm still wrapped around Tophs shoulders.
"I'm so glad your Ok, Toph. Come here— let me — let me fix that." She tugs at Tophs arm, bending water over the cuts and scraps. Toph chuckles, trying to tug her arm away.
"Li- I'm fine I swear." She huffs, fighting the smile tugging at her lips. Li tugs her back, the water hovering over the cuts as they disappear. Toph sighs, knowing she wouldn't let up. "..thanks, Li."
Yeah, everything was gonna be fine.

Summary: Being a member of the council in Republic City was hard work, you clear Kataras schedule and spend the next 24 hours taking care of her.
Wk: 1k
Being a member of the council in Republic City was hard work, no less being a representative. It was tiring, which was why kataras favorite part of the day was coming home to you, the love of her life.
Katara walks through the door of her home after a long day, a sigh escaping her lips before the smell of food hits her nose. Her gaze falls down the hallway, a smile spreading on her lips as she begins walking down the hallway. She follows the smell into the kitchen where she finds you standing over the stove making her favorite food. She smiles, walking up behind you and wrapping her arms around your waist. She rests her head on your shoulder, peaking over and watching you cook.
"Hey, sweetheart." You chuckle, turning your head and pressing a light kiss to the side of her head. "How was your day?" You continue, turning back to the stove and stiring the pot. You hear light sigh escape her lips, her face pressing into your neck as she pecks a small kiss there.
"Long." She starts, her voice muffled against your skin. "So many people talking to me at once— I barely got any information." She huffs, a small laugh escaping her lips. You hum in response, turning the stove off and nudging Katara away from the stove before turning to face her. You wrap your arms around her neck, fingers tangling in her hair.
"Well its a good thing you have tomorrow off." You hum, earning a confused hum from Katara. She lifts her head to look at you.
"What? No I don't." She replies, raising an eyebrow at the smile that formed on your lips. "What did you do?" She questions playfully, thumbs tracing circles over your waist through your shirt.
"I cleared your schedule, you need a day to yourself, sweetie. Just you and me." You start, fingers threading through her hair as you spoke. "No distractions, no meetings, no Sokka barging in because he needs help with something. Just me taking care of you for a day." You hum, placing a kiss on the corner of her mouth. She hums a small agreement, frowning at the thought of missing the meeting tomorrow but immediately melting into your arms as you begin massaging her shoulders.
"Mm..yeah, that sounds amazing.." She mutters, burying her face into your neck and letting out a soft sigh.
--
After the two of you eat dinner, you run a hot bath for Katara. You left the bathroom to grab a fresh towel and to give her some privacy as she stripped down to nothing and sank into the hot water. You came in minutes later, discarding your own clothes and stepping into the bath with her.
-
A soft hum escapes your lips as you run your fingers through her dampened hair, massaging her scalp as she rests against the edge of the tub. Her head resting against your chest as you both soaked in the comforting silence. Her eyes close as she relaxes further into you, the water rippling around the both of you as she shifts slightly.
"This is nice.." She hums out quietly, her hand finding yours and lacing your fingers together.
You smile, running your free hand through her hair then letting it rest on her shoulder, your thumb gently rubbing circles into her.
"Thank you, sweetheart." She whispers, flipping herself over to face you, straddling your hips. Her hand finds your cheek, her thumb dragging along your skin. "I really needed this. Your amazing.." She continues, leaning forward and kissing you. Your hands find her waist as you kiss her back, lips locked in a slow, yet passionate kiss. When she pulls away, she rests her forehead against yours, her eyes soft and tired.
"I love you, sweetie." she hums, pressing another short kiss to your lips.
"I love you too, Sweetheart." You mutter back, resting your head on her shoulder.
--
Long after the bath, The two of toy sit together in bed, Katara silently reading a scroll while you braided her hair. The sun had set not that long ago and the moonlight poured in from the window into the dimmed room. You both just sat in comfortable silence for a while. The only sound in the house being your heartbeats and intertwined breathing. The silent hum of the night filled the room, neither of you spoke. You didn't need to.
Later, you both fall asleep around midnight, tangled up with eachother underneath the sheets soaking in each others warmth.
-
The morning comes slow, the sun pouring in through the closed curtains. Katara, hardly awake, reaches out beside her to find the bed empty. She pushes herself up, the blanket pooping around her waist. She opens her eyes and looks around, scanning the room for you. When she finds the room empty and the door sightly ajar, she puts two and two together and gets out of bed. She wraps herself in a robe and heads towards the kitchen, where to no surprise, you were, standing over the stove half asleep and making breakfast. Katara can't help but laugh at the scene in front of her.
"Good morning, darling." She says through a giggle, walking behind you and wrapping her arms around her waist. You hum a tired reply, hand mindlessly moving the eggs around in the pan.
"G'morning, sweetheart.." You mutter, voice still groggy with sleep.
You weren't a morning person and she knew that. She watches you closely as you continue making breakfast, turning off the stove after you finished cooking. You both ate breakfast together, planning all that you would do together the whole day.
You both decide on going to a small festival, spending the whole day playing games and enjoying each others company. Katara got the rest she needed and you got the spend the whole day with her, no distractions, no meetings.
Just you, and her.

Summary: You have a nightmare in the middle of the night. You wake up in panic with Katara by your side.
You fight against the restraints that bind you to the tree. Your knees and arms are scuffed and bruised from trying to escape your binds. Your voice is raw, each sob or scream for help sounds more desperate and weak than the last. A few feet in front of you, Katara, your girlfriend, stay pinned to the ground. A faceless figure holding her down by bloodbending, the figure presses Kataras body to the ground, grunts of pain escape her lips as she tries to fight it. Her arms are twisted painfully behind her back, face pressed into the ground as you watch helplessly. She sobs out your name, begging you to help her. Her voice is raw, strained as the faceless bloodbender forces her body lower. You watch as she's suddenly yanked back up, an audible crack echoes through the woods. She screams out in pain, tears flowing down her cheeks as her body twists in ways unnatural. You pull against the restraints, body jerking as you try to free yourself. You choke out a sob, your throat burns, your vision is blurred. The screams seem so distant.
"Katara!" you scream, voice barely coming out, you jerk forward. "Katara!?" you scream again, your limbs feel weak, body feeling ready to give out.
"Y/n!" Katara screams, her voice raw, distant. It echoes through your head, it sounds far away, fuzzy. Your vision blurs again. She yells your name again, you feel a slight shake.
You jolt awake suddenly, sitting up faster than your eyes can focus. Your panting, breathing shallow as beads of sweat drip down your face. Your eyes immediately fill with tears as you feel a soft hand on your shoulder. It's Katara, alive, but worried sick. She leans forward, trying to catch your gaze.
"Sweetie?! Sweetie, are you okay? You were yelling out in your sleep." She asks, helping you up straight with a gentle hand on your back. She frowns seeing your panicked gaze. Your eyes immediately lock on Katara, trying to see if this was real or another dream. Your chest heaves, you can't breathe. She places a gentle hand on your chest.
"Hey, hey..breathe, in..." She takes a deep breath, waiting for you to follow. When you do, she lets it out. "..and out. Just like that. It's okay, I'm here." she hums gently, pulling you to her chest in a hug. She doesn't pressure you to speak. She instead, gently runs her fingers through your hair, giving you time to calm down. You take a few deep breaths, hands gripping the fabric of her shirt as if she were going to disappear if you let go. You both sat there for a while, a comforting silence taking over for a moment.
Once Katara could feel your breathing slowing down, she pulls back, hand cupping your face.
"Do you wanna talk about it now?" She asks softly, thumb brushing away a tear that fell from your eye. You take a breath, leaning into her hand.
"I had a nightmare..." You start, breath shaking. "It— they had you. The bloodbender. They-" Your breath hitches before you can finish the sentence, a choked sob escaping your throat. You bury your face into her neck, grasp tighting on the hem of her shirt again. She frowns, leaning forward and pressing a soft kiss against your head.
"Shh..its okay, I'm not hurt. I'm here. Their gone, it's going to be alright. I'm right here.." she whispers into your hair, her arms wrapping around you again. You choke back a sob, your body shaking under her touch. You start taking deep breaths again, once your calm again you pull back, wiping tears from your eyes.
"I was so scared I was gonna lose you, Katara..im sorry.." you mutter, hand playing with the hem of her shirt. She shakes her head, guiding your head to face her. She smiles softly, tilting her head.
"Don't be sorry, sweetie. It's okay, you're okay..their gone." She says, wiping a stray tear away with her thumb again. You respond with a soft smile, leaning into her touch. She leans in, pressing a soft kiss against your lips. You kiss her back, grip loosening on her shirt as you melt into the kiss. She pulls away with a soft sigh, her free hand intertwining with yours.
"See? Everythings alright, sweetheart. I won't ever leave your side." she hums, laying against your chest as you both lay back down, the moonlight highlighting her face perfectly. You hum in agreement, closing your eyes as you curl into her.
"I love you, Katara. ." You mutter as sleep takes you once more. She hums softly in response, fingers twirling in your hair.
"I love you, too. ." she mumbles back as she slowly drifts to sleep alongside you. You sleep peacefully for the rest of the night, arms wrapped around Katara. Your breathing steady, your mind finally clear.
You wake the next morning to the smell of warm passionflower tea and breakfast in bed. Katara sits next to you, fingers running through your hair. She meets hour gaze with a smile.
"How are you feeling, sweetie?" She asks, leaning forward to press a kiss to your forehead.
"Much better, thanks to you." you respond, offering a tired smile as you sip the tea she gave you. She hums in acknowledgment, taking a sip of the tea she prepared for herself. You both decide to spend the rest of the day inside, cuddling, watching movies and just enjoying eachothers company. You sleep peacefully the next night, no nightmares, no cold sweats. Just sweet dreams next to your girlfriend.

Summary: Li returns to republic city after 6 years in the North pole and is met with only Toph there to greet her.
After six full years in the North pole, Li finally makes her return to republic city. The whole ship ride spent rereading the letters from her friends. Excited to see her friends for the first time in years, she could barley stay still, standing outside as she watched the horizon. Her hands grip the boats rails as the city becomes visable in the distance, she quickly rushes to grab the few things she had packed with her.
As soon as they pull up to the docks, Li is quick to get off. In the distance she can see a familiar face. Standing just feet away is Toph, leaning against the railing on the docks. Her head pops up when she hears the boat. Li doesn't waste a second, running quickly over to Toph and throwing her arms around her shoulders in an extremely tight hug.
"Toph!! Oh it's been so long, I've missed you so much!" She squeals. Toph let's out a sharp breath as Li collides with her, a laugh escaping her lips a moment later as she wraps her arms around her, returning the hug.
"Missed you too, sunshine." She chuckles, pulling away from the hug to punch Li in the shoulder. Li laughs, rubbing her shoulder with a soft ow. She looks around for a moment, scanning the area for the others. She turns back to Toph, confused.
"Where are the others?" She asks, hands finally leaving toph to rest on railing of the dock.
"Oh they'll be here later, it's just me and you for a while." She replies calmly, a slight grin playing on her lips and she leans back against the railing again. Li raises an eyebrow, a knowing grin on her lips, before she can even say anything, Toph speaks again.
"No it's not because I wanted you all to myself. Well, maybe." she chuckles, pushing herself off the railing.
"Oh really? How sweet of you, Toph." Li teases, tilting her head as she watches Toph, she moves off the railing.
"Don't get used to it, now come on." She says, waving her along as she turns to start walking away. Li raises a curious eyebrow as she quickly begins to follow after Toph. Speeding up her pace to match Toph, once she's beside her she leans forward a bit, hands held behind her back.
"Where are we going?" She asks, tilting her head.
"Somewhere." Toph answers simply, refusing to elaborate when Li asks again. Li huffs softly to herself, shaking her head.
—
Toph leads Li down a path into a secluded area in the local park, trees lining the path and providing shade from the sun. Li looks around as the walk, taking in the lovely outdoor greener she hasn't seen in years.
"It's beautiful out here." She mutters in a hushed tone.
"So I've been told." Toph replies, a small chuckle escaping her lips as she continues to lead them down a path. Soon they arrive at a small pond, a small turtleduck floating in the water. Toph moves to the edge of the water, sitting down in front of the water.
"Wow, Toph this place is beautiful.." Li murmers, sitting next to Toph, her gaze falling on the clear, calm water.
"I heard about this place from some locals, thought you might've liked it after living in a frozen wonderland for six years." She chuckles, her blind gaze staying forward. Li smiles, head turning to look at Toph.
"..thanks Toph. I really did miss this." Li says, her voice soft.
For a moment, the two are silent. Toph silently enjoying the steadiness of Lis' breath. The sound of the breeze rustling the leaves breaks the comfortable silence, Li looks over at Toph, admiring just how much she changed over the last few years. She was definitely stronger, something Li definitely admired about Toph. Her strength and determination. She'd idolized that since they were kids, always striving to be as strong as her.
"I can feel you staring at me." Toph suddenly speaks up, a smug grin spreading on her lips as Li is snapped from her thoughts, A deep flush creeping up her neck. She clears her throat, hiding it through a soft laugh.
"Sorry— I was..thinking." She answers finally, hand moving to rub the back of her neck. Toph chuckles, scooting closer to Li and leaning closer, a knowing, yet teasing grin on her lips.
"You thinking about me? Your hearts racing." she teases, warning a small scoff from Li.
"Maybe." She replies, meeting her sightless gaze. "I missed you." She says more softly.
"I know, you've said it about 20 times." Toph replies with a chuckle, Li responds by punching her in the arm.
"Shut up! I'm trying to be serious here!" She laughs, sighing before leaning against Toph, her head resting on her shoulder. "I did really miss you. There wasn't a day that went by that I wasn't thinking about you." She starts, voice softer that intended. She chuckles, putting a hand over her face. "Sorry— I don't mean to get cheesy." She sighs, falling back against the grass with a soft thud. Tophs sightless gaze follows the sound, she chuckles.
"I missed you too, sunshine." She replies, her voice laced with a teasing undertone. She leans over Li, hands planted on either side of her head. Toph hums, hand moving to map out Lis' face, her hand brushes against her cheek, gently moving down and into her hair. She runs her fingers through it, her eyes widen slightly in surprise finding it ending short.
"You cut your hair." She points out, playing with the ends of Lis' hair. Li chuckles, hand resting on her own chest as she nods.
"Yeah— shortly after my dad passed away." she hums, gaze locked on tophs face. Tophs hand runs through Lis' hair once more. Li pushes herself up, resting her weight on her elbows, face inches from tophs. Without thinking, Li leans up, her lips pressing against tophs in a kiss. Tophs eyes widen, hand freezing in Lis' hair. She melts into the kiss, returning it with equal passion. Her hands tangle in her hair, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss.
"Eww, oogies." A voice called from the distance, quickly shut up by another. Li pulls away from the kiss, red faced. She sits up and turns to see the gaang, Sokka giving a face of disgust. Toph rolls her eyes, getting off from on top of Li and sitting to face the lake again. Li smiles, getting up and running over to them.
"Guys!" She exclaims, pulling them into a group hug. "I missed you all so much!" she chuckles, squeezing them. Katara laughs, giving an equally tight hug back.
"We missed you too, Li!" she replies, a smile on her face. Sokka leans against Aang, resting his elbow on his shoulder.
"So whens the wedding? You guys look real comfortable over there." Sokka teases, his finger pointing and circling around where Toph and Li were sat. Li scoffs, heat creeping to her cheeks. Aang chuckles as Katara elbows Sokka in the side.
"Leave them alone, Sokka." She chuckles. Li turns to walk back over to the lake where she sits back down beside Toph, inviting the others to come sit.
"What I'm being serious! Li said something in her letters ab—" Sokka starts before getting cut off immediately by Katara shushing him. Katara walks over and sits beside Li as the others follow.
"Sorry Zuko couldn't be here. He's got Fire Lord business." She sighs, watching koi fish swim around the lake. Li nods, looking over her shoulder as Aang walks up behind her.
"Hey Li, how have you been?" He asks with a smile, sitting down beside Katara and wrapping a loose arm around her.
"I've been great! The kids up at the North pole were so sweet. They loved hearing stories about our adventures." She chuckles, recalling the many times her students have stopped training to ask about Aang. Aang chuckles, shaking his head.
"I hope that wasn't too hard for you." He replies, Li shrugs in return.
"Wasn't too hard, makes it easier when their goofing off." She chuckles, clasping her hands together and placing them in her lap. Aang glances down, noticing the blue undertones of the tips of her fingers.
"What happened to you hands?" He asks, tilting his head. Katara peaks up from the lake, noticing her hands.
"Did you get forst bite?! I told you to wear proper gloves!" She scolds, grabbing her hands to find them very cold to the touch. Aang looks between them, surprised.
"I look cooler with these! Plus it's not that bad, my hands are just always cold now." She huffs, stifling a small laugh over Kataras scolding.
—
The day passes, the sun sets and the gaang head their separate ways for the night. Li and Toph head back to Tophs place for the night.
Toph leads Li to her bedroom, where she sits on the bed and yawns.
"There's some clothes in the dresser, you can barrow mine." she says, falling back against the pillow while picking at her ear. Li nods, giving Toph a verbal hum of acknowledgment as she walks to the dresser. She quickly changes and sets her suitcase beside her end of the bed and opening it. She pulls out a small wooden box and opens it. She sighs to herself and closes the box, setting it on the nightstand next to the bed. Toph looks over at the sound.
"What was that?" she asks, sitting up and scooting closer to Li. She wraps an arm around her waist and pulls her closer.
"Nothing, something I brought from home, my dad helped me make them before he passed." She responds, her hand leaving the box as she lays down.
The two lie together in peaceful silence as they both fall asleep tangled together.

The gaang had just arrived in the North pole that morning, now they were being treated to a lovely dinner to welcome them.
the gaang sit along a table, the moon light shining against their icey surroundings. Master pakku and his students preforming in the background as they ate. Sokka sat between Katara and Yue, making terrible chit-chat.
"—well it looks like I'm gonna be in town for a while. I'm thinkin maybe we could...do actually together?"
he continues, a sheepish smile on his face as he faced Yue
"Do an activity?" she repeats back to him with a smile as she tilts her head, amused. Sokka nervously looks away.
From behind Katara, a small, quiet giggle can be heard. Sokka turns first, shooting the person a glare. Katara turns next, between her and aang sat a young girl. At Kataras gaze, she looks down at her food.
"Sorry— I didn't mean to interrupt." she murmurs, looking nervous as she turns her head back to Katara with a sheepish smile. "I'm — I'm li. I heard the avatar was in town and—" she starts, words dying in her throat. Katara smiles, reaching out to shake the girls hand.
"Hi li, I'm Katara — and that." she nods to Sokka, an amused smile playing on her lips. "—is Sokka. My idiot brother." she chuckles, managing to get a sheepish giggle from li.
"The one behind you is the avatar, aang." Katara adds, pointing to aang. Li turns to face him, aang greets her with a wave and a smile.
"Hi.." Li starts, messing with the hems of her winter gloves. "I was really excited when I heard you were here —" she mutters, hiding a small smile. "You see- I'm a waterbender and- when I heard you were here I thought maybe you could teach me waterbending!" she continues, sounding a bit more excited at she continued speaking. She then pauses, a flush creeping up her neck.
"Not— not that you have to! Of course!" She adds quickly, embarrassed. Aang smiles, adjusting his posture before speaking
"I'd love too, but I'm actually here to learn waterbending! But I bet Katara could teach you a few tricks, though!" Aang replies, pointing at Katara. Li turns to Katara, tilting her head as if asking her to teach her. Katara chuckles, nodding her head.
"I'm not that good, but I guess I could teach you the basics." She says, picking at her food for a moment before taking a bite.
Later that night, everyone had settled into into their tends. The gaang sitting around a little light, chatting when the rustle of the tend door can be heard. They all turn their heads to see a familiar face peak in. It was li. Katara sits up, offering li a smile.
"Hey li, what are you doing out here so late?" She questions, waving her hand to invite li in. Li steps in, sitting in front of Katara, her legs crossed.
"I was wondering if you could teach me some waterbending moves tonight.." Li admits, her voice a bushed whisper. Sokka chimes in before Katara can respond.
"Why don't you just wait till the morning and go to master pakku with aang and Katara?" he asks, pointing a curious finger at li, eyebrow raised. Li pauses for a moment before speaking.
"..He doesn't know I'm a bender— and I kind of haven't had the courage to ask him to teach me.." She admits sheepishly, pulling her gloves off her hands. Katara and aang share a look before they both look at li. Katara speaks first.
"How about we go together tomorrow? Me and aang are already going to him. You can come too!" Katara offers, a smile on her face. Aang nods in agreement. Sokka looks between the three, frowning.
"That's literally what I just said." He huffs, leaning back against a little, hand rested on the ground beside him.
"Yeah I'm sure master pakku would agree to teach you!" He adds cheerfully. Li smiles, looking down for a quick moment.
"Yeah..maybe he would." She mumbles, voice seeming almost uncertain.
"Thanks guys." Li starts, getting up and giving the three a small bow before starting for the tent entrance. "I'll see you in the morning!" She gives a small wave, the three of them giving a short wave back as she leaves.
The next morning, just after the sun came up, Katara and Aang meet Li outside her tend. Shes still tugging on her gloves as she walks out, looking a bit nervous. Katara notices her nervous behavior.
"You alright? There's no need to be nervous, I'm sure he'd agree to teach you." Katara gives Li a smile. Li nods, looking off into the distance.
"Yeah well..there's something I need—" Li starts to speak but is quickly cut off by Aang.
"Cmon guys, we're gonna be late!" He says, tugging the both of them along with him. Li sighs, following along behind Katara.
—
"What do you mean you won't teach us?!" Kataras voice echoes throughout training yard. Li stands behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Katara— maybe we should just go.." She mutters, a poor attempt to try and calm her down. Katara pushes her hand off, stepping forward.
"No! I didn't travel across the world to be told no!" She shouts, pointing a finger at master pakku.
"Here, the women learn to use their waterbending to heal." He speaks calmly, sitting down on an iced platform.
"We don't want to heal, we want to fight!" Katara hisses back, li steps closer, still behind Katara. She nods slightly, tugging at her gloves.
"I can see that, but our tribe has customs. Rules." Master pakku replies simply.
"Well your rules stink!" Katara bites back, Aang chiming in beside her.
"Yeah! Their not fair at all!" He starts. "If you won't teach Katara and Li, then I won't learn from you!" He continues, grip fighting on his staff as he turns to leave.
"Well have fun teaching yourself. I'm sure you'll learn plenty." Master pakku replies calmly, standing from his seat. Li turns to Aang as he walks away.
"Aang wait—" She starts, following after him. Katara turns to master pakku.
"I'm sure he didn't mean that.." She says before following after the two, grabbing Aang by shoulder.
"You can't risk your training for us." She says, squeezing his shoulder. Li nods, stepping forward.
"Yeah even if he's a big jerk, he's your only option." She shrugs, tugging at her gloves with a guilty look on her face. Aang nods.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll meet you guys back at the tend" He says with a slight sigh, waving a short goodbye before heading back.
Li and Katara make their way back to the tend, mostly silent until Li speaks up.
"I'm sorry." she manages to mutter out. Katara turns her head to look at Li.
"Why? You didn't do anything wrong. Pakku is just a jerk." She says, shrugging as she places a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"I knew that was going to happen.." She starts, Katara tilts her head, surprised.
"Why didn't you say anything last night?" Katara questions, stopping in her tracks. Li tugs at her gloves.
"Because then Aang wouldn't have gone and he would'nt have gotten the chance to learn waterbending." She admits sheepishly. Katara smiles, giving lis' shoulder a small squeeze.
"That's very kind of you."
Later, Aang returns to the tent, finding the empty aside. Confused, he walks outside. Nearby he can hear the sound of laughter. He follows it to find Li and Katara by a secluded stream, Li soaked in water while Katara is laughing over her. Aang smiles, making his way over to the two.
"What's going on here?" He asks through a chuckle. Katara reaches a hand out to help Li up. Li chuckles before turning to Aang, brushing her hair out of her face.
"I lost control of the water.." She admits sheepishly, a small embarrassed flush on her cheeks. Aang laughs, moving beside the two. Katara pulls some water from the stream again, smiling.
"Here, try again. Breathe, and try not to think so hard about it. It's all in your form." She instructs, gently guiding the water back into the stream. Li nods, taking a deep breath as she turns her body back to the stream. She tugs off her gloves, setting them on the ground before trying again. The water gently pulls from the stream, a glimmer of excitement flashing in her eyes as she guides the water.
"Look! Katara I'm doing it!" She exclaims, a bright smile spreading across her face.
"You are! Keep going, you're doing great!" Katara replies excitedly, watching Li carefully as she guides the water around and gently back into the stream. She practically jumps at Katara, pulling her into a hug.
"I can't believe it! I actually did it! Thank you Katara, you're the best teacher ever!" she squeals, squeezing Katara.
Katara laughs, hugging her back before pulling away, smiling. "That's only the basics, you still have a lot to learn." she starts, a small laugh escaping her throat. She reaches out and places a hand on her shoulder.
"But from what I've seen, I think you'll be an amazing waterbender someday."

summary: toph can't enjoy the beauty of literature on her own, so she has you read books aloud for her.
toph had her head in your lap, eyes shut with her arms lazily over her chest as you two sat beneath a willow tree. the gentle breeze and the chirping of the birds were enough to bring calm between the two of you.
while you two sat, you had your nose in a book, reading the pages out loud as per toph’s instruction. she couldn’t enjoy the beauty of literature and stories on her own, so she had you—the woman she loved—reading them out for her.
toph didn’t care much for the story itself, but she knew they were your favorites and she loved to hear your voice. she loved the feeling of the gentle vibrations from your soft-spoken voice rumbling against her skin.
you reading out loud was like music to her ears, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to tease you.
“the knight would sneak away in the middle of the night, away from his duties, just for a chance to see his beloved’s face once more. at the risk of getting caught—”
“why would the knight do that?” toph interrupted. “risking getting hung by the king all because he fell in love with his daughter?”
“toph!” you pouted at her, though she couldn’t see it. “you just interrupted the best part! and besides, people do crazy things when they’re in love.”
toph grinned, liking the way your voice pitched higher as you defended your favorite piece of literature. “okay, fine, fine. proceed, milady.”
you rolled your eyes, smiling as you tried to find where you left off. “where was i? oh—! okay. —at the risk of getting caught, the knight slowly pushes the princess’s doors open. the wooden oaks creaked, the sound loud and a complete contrast to the stillness that welcomed him in the hallways—”
“pffft,” toph blew raspberries, picking at her ear. “that knight is totally getting caught.”
“toph!” you whacked her on the head gently.
“ow!”
“pay attention!”
toph’s smile grew wider. “i am!”
you huffed, the poutiness evident from your voice alone—and it made toph’s heart swell. god, she loved teasing you and getting a reaction out of it.
“you told me you wanted me to read to you, and you keep stopping me before i can even finish a paragraph. this story is really beautiful, and i want you to pay attention to it, tophie. like, really pay attention to it.”
toph could hear the frown in your voice, and how your words started to trail off into something quieter the more you went on about this fairytale. with a sigh, she reached for your hand and brought it to her face, pressing a soft, gentle kiss to your knuckles.
“okay, fine. i’m sorry,” she said gently against your hand. “go on, princess. i’m listening.”
you took a deep breath, smoothing out the page of the book with your free hand while toph kept her cheek rested against your knuckle.
you cleared your throat and looked back down at the text.
“...the knight stepped into the princess’s chamber, the moonlight spilling across the floor like silver silk. she was standing by the window, waiting for him. when their eyes met, the rest of the world—the king’s guards, the looming towers, their duties—simply ceased to exist.”
you glanced down, and toph was actually quiet. her eyes were still closed as she let your words linger in the air.
“he reached out,” you continued, your voice softening at the intimate scene you were reciting. “‘i would face a thousand armies,’ the knight whispered, ‘just to know you are safe within these walls. just to see your face again.’ then, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to the princess’s lips.”
toph let out a long, slow exhale. for a moment, you thought she had fallen asleep, but then she spoke up.
“we should recreate that scene.”
your face warmed with embarrassment. “i told you to stop interrupting!” you stammered out sheepishly.
toph could only laugh. she loved these moments—these soft, vulnerable moments where it was just you and her, and you reading out loud to her while she teased you in between.
to her, it was absolutely perfect.
“sorry, baby.” she grinned. “i just can’t help myself.”
