Bit of Retro love from the guys @Device!  This is the trailer to Javier Polo's documentary about a new musical movement dubbed 'CHIP MUSIC', where people use old skool gaming hardware (like that Nintendo Gameboy you know and love), to create new and innovative electro beats!

Especially prolific parts of Europe this may well become a booming trend worldwide in 2014!  Other than being a really exciting way of reviving these dated machines the music doesn't sound too bad either!  Here's an example from one of the many artists involved in this project - BACALAO:

I love this selection of pictures from Flikr's equivalent of 'Staff Picks'!  Alexander JE Bradley uses milk instead of your bog standard prop to create these dynamic, and jokes photographs!  The suspense is immense, and in the few shots we actually see the milk hit are LOL funny!

I wonder how many people knew the milk was coming?  Looks fun, but i don't envy them the task of washing that milky smell off lol!

His mix tape is pretty dope too - CASSETTE 3…complete with great samples and some trippy hip-hop beats. Concious Rap has another unlikely advocate!

I've been out of the country for just less than a month and I return to some amazing music hitting our shores from the US.  Will come to INC later, but for now soak up the Breakbeats / Fresh vocals from Miss Kelela signed to US label Fade To Mind.  This is not your average label, with the music from it's producers changing the face of the American Club scene these guys still find time to dabble with visual art and clothing!  These guys would definitely go on my list of people to work with!

Fashion Scout 140913...

Vodafone's London Fashion Weekend event marks then end of another successful run of shows for London Fashion Week 2013.  Somerset House was bustling as usual and there is no wonder...this is the staple event in every fashionista's calendar!  Last years Fashion Week highlight for me was a one on one with Ozwald Boateng and this year it was great to have a chance to catch a couple of shows!

My partner in fashion crime (designer Millicent Ashley) and I began the afternoon at the Radio Rooftop Bar where we took in some amazing views of London, cocktails and a spot of lunch.  First show stop...Felicities PR with Basharatyan V at Fashion Scout.  We were blown away by her Spring/Summer 2014 silhouettes!  The soft powdered palette was punctuated with bursts of neon colour and the odd 'Aztec-esque' print.  The materials were obviously well thought out and moved well in step.  These pieces are my fave:

After checking out the vibes at Somerset House our second stop was at Central St Martins for the debut of Palmer//Harding.  This American duo have been steadily building up a reputation as the kings of the shirt, taking this humble but classic garment and giving it a modern playful twist!  Having partnered up with Cotton USA for this particular collection you can see that these items were made with high quality materials, and the pallette was supposed to represent light showers often seen in summer.

Other than the set design and sound effects (which were awesome by the way) I didn't really get the rain thing, but I was interested in finding the dynamics this fashion duo.  Levi tells me:

"We live together, and work together so we get on pretty well.  I'm a lot more laid-back and free flowing in the way I design where as Matt is a perfectionist...he has a keen eye for detail..."

What a talented pair!  In fact London was brimming with style and talent over the last couple of weeks and as always when you find yourself amongst such people it's a massive boost of creative energy!  Last year no shows...this year two, and next year we'll be flashing the highly sought all access passes!  

Well...one can dream right :P

I went to see this last night!  Pretty darn good!  Emotive performances from Lenny Henry especially - at points I found that I forgot that it was him completely!  The entire cast (who includes actor Colin Macfarlen) acted their socks off and the story - which battled with family politics and class / sex division in 1920s America - was strangely easy to relate to!

Only a few days left guys...def worth seeing before it's done!

ADIDAS Stan Smith Exibition:

#StanSmith by DNA Factory The Southbank is one of the best places in London to visit, and one thing worth seeing in the area this month is the Adidas exhibition at Oxo Tower Wharf!  Hosted by Platform 6 - a non-profit organisation keen on showcasing niche lesbian, gay and bisexual artwork - the event marks the re-release of the Stan Smith tennis shoe made famous in the 70's by an US No.1 of the same name.  Adidas commission 20 artists to customise the plain white trainer and among some of the less established artists and designers, celebrities like Elton John, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are also collaborators!  The exhibition is FREE to enter and runs from the 7th - 14th September.  Platform 6 will be auctioning all of the #StanSmith designs for gay, lesbian and bisexual charity Stockwells...click HERE to enter your bid.

I attended this private launch on behalf of Flavour Magazine and brought the lovely Dionne Reid along with me.  Neither of us knew what to expect so we got the shock of our lives when we entered the building to find a gimp tied up in a box (I kid you NOT)!!  This sure enough set the tone and wandering round the vast labyrinth like rooms (via the bar lol) we were confronted by a streams of deviant sculptures, paintings and photographs. Everything challenged our morality, tickled our fears and provoked our base human emotions. Each room was lit in a dark moody way that complimented the artworks and enhanced all you felt (just as a good gallery should), but it was a relief to get to get up to the light and airy top floor where the main attractions – pimped out #StanSmiths - were on display.

The highlights of the exhibition for me were seeing the work of Layla Lyons (real skill), if I had to bid for one of the customised Original Adidas Stan Smiths I’d have to controversially go for DNA Factory’s effort.  Although their work didn’t really sit that well with me throughout the exhibition their Stan Smiths stood heel and toe above the rest!
