I always knew bout the severe wage discrepancy if you were a tipped worker but damn

The law is that the tipped workers make the subminimum wage with tips intending to boost them up to the actual minimum wage. If tips don’t get the worker to the minimum wage for a pay period then the employer is legally supposed to supplement their income to get them there. The problem is that tipped workers don’t know that/don’t have the means to fight back without risking their job.

Not to mention that if a customer tips on a card, the government can income tax it.

I’m happy to give tips for good service when I order food, but it should be the EMPLOYER’S job to make sure that server makes the money they need to live off of, not mine. My tips should just be a gift for good service.
