❝ WELL THAT’S SPLENDID, DEAR! ❞ Her smile beams at the prospect of his improvements in Science, knowing how much that would certainly mean to grandpa especially. She doesn’t expect him to be a straight A student — although she’d be lying if ever stated that she hadn’t at least hoped for the best — so long as he was doing well enough that it kept the principal from calling, she’d be content. That is… until she actually saw his report card. ❝ We’re always here to help you if you ever need us, you know. Just don’t let grandpa give you any more of those magick pills of his. ❞ She shakes her head at the remembrance of how well that worked out for them over the years. The compliment to her stew once again brings a lighter smile to her face, not as excited as the one before it, but suitable enough to make her feel at ease with her own cooking. She too takes a taste of it though and ponders before stirring the spoon back into the cauldron. ❝ Yes, a bit more yak I think. That should do just fine. Good call, dear. Now… how long is this little slumber party of yours? Will you be staying there most of the weekend? I trust they have a drawer for you at the very least where you can sleep? ❞
“Well, he said to go over to his house after school on Friday.” In answer to his mother’s query about how long the slumber party might be. “And then I’ll spend the night there. I don’t know when he goes to bed, though. I hope it’s not when it’s still dark out.” A small concerned frown creased his brow a bit.
“Gosh.” The question of whether or not he would have a drawer of his own made him fall silent briefly. The truth was, suitable sleeping arrangements hadn’t even occurred to the boy. “I guess they do.” He vaguely remembered having seen a chest of drawers in Billy’s room when he had been over to his house before. Suddenly, Eddie remembered another crucial detail of the sleepover. “Oh! Billy said something about sleeping bags. Those are like body bags, right?” he questioned his mother hopefully, looking up at her once again. He had never actually used one, but if they were kind of like body bags, as he was imagining, Eddie didn’t think he would mind it for one weekend.
