Clickbait-thumbnail, Youtube-shorts-style, red-circle red-arrow, "THE ONE ANIMATION DETAIL YOU MISSED THAT CHANGES EVERTHING"-titled fandom theorizing is an invasive species.
Real fandom theorizing should be done in the form of a post on a dusty forum site that gets maximum 200 views and opens with the sentence "this is probably nothing but I noticed a pattern" followed by 1,000 words that crack wide open a canon reveal that isn't slotted to air for 5 more years.
I desperately needed a break from the comics inks and thumbnails I’ve been doing so I gave myself a Liu Qingge as a treat. I think I like the black and white version more but I wanted to play around with some new brushes!

I had sm fun figuring out a design for Witch!LQG and went with something sort of prince/knight inspired, since he's always given me that vibe in canon. Also an excuse for me to indulge in liushen crumbs!!!
Him and his sister are from a very established witch family and lived in the Great Hall for some time, until he got sick of it and left to go adventuring. He signed up to be SQQ's watchful eye after learning that he suddenly wants to move his atelier outside of the great hall, thinking he's up to no good (LQG still believes SQQ is SJ at this point). Little does he know that the SQQ he now lives with acts so different from the one in his childhood and unexpectedly becomes fond of him (as all watchful eyes do with the masters they protect, anyways)
It took him a while to warm up to SQQ's apprentices, though him and Binghe do not get along at all (how dare he get so close with shizun). They often get into petty squabbles which end up with both of them getting scolded by SQQ 💔

So a few years ago I had this idea where SY introduces DnD to QJP as "strategy training" and SQH ends up coming over every week or so to be the DM. (Ofc all of the scenarios are written by SQH) (under SY's supervision bc you can't trust that man) and SY helps with monster-related stuff and convincing YQY to let SQH spend more time outside of An Ding Peak (or smth idk)
Anyway 3 years later here's a short comic inspired by this idea

It’s finally happened.
After almost a decade on this site, I found another Tumblr user in the wild. I stopped to tie my shoe with rainbow laces this morning outside the silversmith at Colonial Williamsburg, and I heard it.
“I like your shoelaces.”
Oh. Oh no.
I responded the only way I could. “Thanks.” And then I reluctantly added, “I stole them from the president…and if that makes sense to you, I’m very sorry.”
The poor man, in full Colonial dress, stared at me for a long moment. And then burst into laughter. And said, “I haven’t thought about that in YEARS and this has never happened to me before.”
Yeah. Me neither. Not until today.

Sure thing! For convenience I’ll refer to the guy with his arms in his pockets as SG (shorter guy) and the one on the computer as TG (taller guy).
In the first panel, SG sees TG playing on the computer and is disappointed. SG puts a lot of value in the idea of “making things,” specifically “art,” and thinks TG is just wasting their time
So he asks them if they wouldn’t rather be “making something” instead of just playing games and listening to music, implying that TG isn’t doing anything worthwhile or creative with their time
But TG replies that “interpreting is generative,” meaning that even if they spend their time just doing fun stuff, the mere act of enjoying something is creating an experience and an interpretation. Talking about something, dancing to music or sharing a piece of art with your friends IS “making something,” and each of those can be worthwhile and artistic.
SG leaves, complaining he “can’t be an auteur of [interpretation].” Auteur is a movie term that refers to a filmmaker with artistic control and vision enough to be considered essentially the singular creator of the resulting work of art. Turns out, SG doesn’t just want to “make things,” he wants to make things he and others see as “important.” He wants to make art not for the sake of art, but for the sake of being recognized and praised for his art.
This comic really speaks to elitism within the artistic community, the idea that art needs to meet certain standards to be considered art. SG’s viewpoint is really traditionalist, that art need to be “approved” and validated in order to be considered “really art;” while TG recognizes that art can be as little as just talking about what you love.
TLDR: Art is for everyone, not just some sort of social “artistic elite.”
