I’m going to write a somewhat long review for this chapter because I genuinely loved it to the point of tears. It was painful in the best way. You’ve always been great at writing Hinata’s emotions in the first two chapters, but in this one it felt so easy to get completely immersed in her thoughts and feelings.
When the chapter opened with Hinata injuring her ankle, I was genuinely scared for a second thinking it might be something serious that wouldn’t heal.
“For Hiashi, his younger daughter was more valuable than his older daughter…”
actually made me so angry. Like what is wrong with this man?? Favoring one daughter over the other?? I was genuinely heated.
But then later, with Hanabi’s scene:
“She doesn’t want me to sit next to her?”
it made me rethink everything. It felt like Hiashi is using the same comparison tactics on both of them, making each believe the other is the favorite. And the way Hanabi is visibly affected by it, while Hinata internalizes everything and even blames herself for it… that broke my heart. And somehow made me love her even more 🩷
“Isn’t she amazing!” Naruto proclaimed.
I know it might be too early to ask, but is Naruto starting to like her? Or at least admire her? I’ve honestly had this feeling since chapter two.
This part especially hurt:
she hadn't realized… they were forming genuine connections…
If it hadn’t been for her own father…
I don’t even know how to properly explain it, but seeing her feel like an outsider among them was so painful.
The hotel scene with Naruto…
“I think you’re pretty amazing.”
I genuinely can’t tell if he likes her or just respects her as a hardworking person 😭 and I’m not gonna lie, I was a little frustrated with him here… like boy please stop being confusing 😭
“You could talk to me about anything.”
From what I know about Hinata, things might get worse before they get better… and I feel like she’ll reach her breaking point before Naruto realizes and steps in. So yeah… I’m side-eyeing him for now 😭
“A failure in her father’s eyes managed to go undefeated internationally.”
this said EVERYTHING. She keeps achieving so much, yet all she gets is starvation, pain, and emotional torment. It’s just so unfair.
his silence hurt more than any cruel words…
I genuinely hope Hiashi gets a satisfying ending… and by satisfying I mean being exposed and humiliated. Death would be too easy for him. He needs to face the consequences of how he treated his daughters.
I’m still lowkey mad at him 😭 but also… how is he this sweet??????? The way you wrote him is so soft and genuine, I love it so much. And Hinata deleting it because of her father, that hurt all over again.
This chapter was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I cried for Hinata, and I was angry for her. You really made me feel everything. You mentioned the next chapters will be even worse, so I’m mentally preparing myself… but I won’t promise I won’t be in your comments ranting in my native language if anyone hurts her again 🫶
And honestly, I just want to say your writing style is so captivating. The way you describe emotions, the pacing, the way scenes flow into each other… everything feels so intentional and immersive. The concept of the story itself is so engaging, and you’re building it in such a strong and thoughtful way. I’m genuinely so excited to see where this goes next, and I’ll be here supporting you every step of the way 🩷🫶
Thank you so much for your review, your support means the world to me and actually is the reason I ended up finishing the chapter by Sunday!! I’ll try to answer each of your points without giving too much away:
1. Hanabi and Hinata’s relationship is the center of the story. They’re both extraordinary in their own ways, and yes you’re right! They both react to their father’s tactics in different ways. Once Hanabi turns senior we’re going to see more of how this “rivalry” is played up by both their father and the media.
2. Hinata’s relationship with Naruto is complicated at the moment, I kinda wanted to emulate what happened in the manga/anime, how Hinata’s feelings were so clear but Naruto (oblivious boy that he is) never really could understand his feelings for Hinata even when it was so blatantly obvious lol. Haha also since this is from Hinata’s perspective she can’t tell 100% what Naruto is feeling, maybe he can’t either since they’re both so entranced in the sport that it leaves little space for their own lives 😅.
3. Also yes Hinata is suffering a lot, she’ll hit a breaking point and have to reevaluate her life/willingness to continue in the sport, but that’s a few chapters ahead. Figure skating is such a beautiful sport but the behind the scenes is brutal. A lot of girls suffer because of abusive coaches who are never properly dealt with for the sake of “results”
4. I’m aiming for a double update next week since my classes are pretty much done, just need to get through a few tests first.
