platonic jia headcanons dump

i'm supposed to be studying rn but i'm going through brotp withdrawals 💔 i miss jia SO FUCKING BAD so i'm logging in for a bit to yap abt them before logging out again

heads up: a bunch of other characters and ships get mentioned. it's not my fault theyre both people pleasers!!!!

this is very very messy, like the order might seem organised at first but then it'll start bulshitting at skme point. bare with me

starting with 1. lia is a lesbian 2. jake is bisexual. because it will be giving context to a lot of hcs here

lia genuinely wanted to befriend jake back in freshman year so she approached him a ton. maria noticed and teased her abt it, suggesting that lia was crushing on him (though she wasn't serious abt it). zoey, however, did take it seriously and was delighted by the possibility, saying that she and lia can go on infinite double dates and be bffs forever ever and other fun stuff. lia who wanted to impress zoey sooo bad said yes and that was the start of her pretending to have a crush on jake

her genuine interest in him didn't go away though, it in fact grew stronger, which aided in her trying to convince herself that she held actual romantic feelings for him

her 'crush' on him also served as a coping mechanism of sorts, projecting onto him and flirting with him to distract herself from the horrors

jake was very confused when lia first started flirting with him, though he never thought abt it that much bcus she started her romantic advances around the same time when his popularity started to spike, so he told himself that it was inevitable since lia seemed to never be impressed with the guys that approached her

lia once tried starting a conversation with him by saying that she found daisy very pretty as well too, but realised that sounded really gay so she never went through with it

they sit next to each other in french. lia is a lot less flirty with him during class, sometimes not at all when she gets too comfortable and forgets that she's supposed to have a crush on him

they're both very, very terrible at french

after they started getting closer and formed a genuine friendship, they regularly recite dumb french pick up lines at each other and other romantic french stuff in hopes in improving each others french (it's not working)

lia originally had jake's contact saved as 'Jake ♥️' before changing it to 'Emotional support white boy' after getting close to him. she likes saving people's numbers with things she associates them with (ex: henry is walmartdeku. i want to list more but it's sorta detailed, i'll probably include that in a separate lia hcs post or smth)

jake originally had lia saved as 'Lia 🇫🇷' not bcus he thinks she's actually french but bcus he always preferred interacting with her during french (plus he didn't know what emoji to put and felt bad bcus he usually saves ppls numbers with an emoji)

lia wanted to congratulate jake personally after the it was revealed that tmc won the competition, but when she saw tmc with jake she pussied out and texted him instead. it took jake a full day to reply, what an ass!!!!!!

things were really awkward after the competition. while jake forgave lia, their already almost non-existent friendship was still clearly strained. lia wanted to mend things between them but jake was always with tmc and she much rather kill herself than face them #coward

they still had french together though, so that was their main source of Actually Bulding A Bond. it took them a bit but eventually they started to regularly text and call each other

lia opened up abt her past with hailey (+ luke n zander) when jake first invited her to hang out with tmc. jake was genuinely horrified at first, unable to comprehend how someone could make those decisions, but then he remembers that he himself wasn't any better (and in some ways, worse) so he stopped judging her so much

-oh on their bullysonas, i think theyre sooo interesting. while jake didn't want to become a bully at first, the thrill of inflicting hurt onto others got to him which made him genuinely enjoy being a bully a lot of times. lia becoming a bully was entirely her own decision, she got uncomfortable more easily and stayed mostly silent when zoey n her friends bullied others. she was more of an enabler and a lot more passive than jake

jake eventually got lia to meet sean, cus he knew he would the most chill abt her. sean was still very skeptical abt her though, esp considering her past with milly, but when he saw how pathetic she actually is he let her slide

it took everything for jake to get lia interacting with the rest of tmc, but she did eventually. it was NOT pretty, but they decided to give her a second chance since they did gave jake two

they're both annoyingly photogenic. it's still possible to get a bad photo of them, just... rarely

zander is their #1 hater

jake and lia started to get especially close when they started randomly ranting about their weird ass homoerotic friendships with drew and zoey. it was really refreshing, before this, they thought they were crazy!!!

when lia came out to jake as a lesbian, he was understandably really confused. lia couldn't really explain why at first, since she herself was still questioning everything. they both went on the internet together and discovered compulsory heterosexuality and hyperfixated on that to the point they skipped sleeping

jake had to explain to milo abt lia's lesbianism whenever she was around (with her permission, of course). milo then made fun of him, saying that the only girl he could ever pull didn't even like him. this made lia giggle. jake was not amused, however.

jake coming out to lia was entirely accidental, like once they randomly started talking abt crushes and types and jake casually drops the bomb that he likes guys. lia would be surprised if she still saw jake as the guy she has to get with, but now having insight in his weird ass friendship with drew, she wasn't that surprised honestly

jake teases lia abt girls a lot. sometimes instead of flirting with girls like how he usually would, he pushes lia at them instead. he toned it down when it started to actually really piss lia off

in turn, every time a random guy asks for lia's number, she gives them jake's number instead. jake gets jumpscared every single time

she also sends him tiktoks abt eboys and asks him to rate them. she pays close attention to the ratings, ignoring how the higher rated ones kinda resemble drew. that's jake's demon to fight.

after hailey and lia start to get close again, and a bunch of conversations with zander, jake eventually caught on abt lia's big fat crush on hailey. he is ANNOYING abt it

jake tries to 'educate' lia abt hailey's weaknesses and ways to tease her

they both play those 2 player roblox tycoon games together, it's their guilty pleasure

lia regularly heps jake and tmc with promoting band gigs, she's basically their social media manager atp

I like to imagine that the rest of the Dromies have literally no problem swearing, and it’s just him who does that. No one can figure out why. Liam says he’s “saving it for a special occasion,” whatever that means.

I love Stacy. She was done dirty, but I love her in spite of that.

I love how she is very clearly an exaggerated depiction of a stereotypical romance novel/movie protagonist. She’s a “nerd” who loves books (who’d definitely read at parties, lol). She’s so clumsy it borders on unrealistic. She comes off sort of awkward, and she apologizes for things that aren’t her fault. She’s based on a common archetype.

But I also love how she subverts that same archetype by knowing what she wants and being confident enough in herself to go after it. She never questions how Luke could ever love someone like her, or anything like that. She’s confident in who she is, and in fact, she thinks her and Luke would make a great match! She’s so confident in this, it ends up being a flaw, since she fails to fully consider Luke’s perspective. And she gets so caught up in imagining a happily ever after that she goes in for a kiss before she even gets confirmation he likes her. She does the polar opposite of the stereotypical 900-page slowburn most romantic leads go through.

Since the rest of her character follows stereotypical romance tropes so clearly, and the romantic pairing she’s in has the “book nerd x popular boy” dynamic, you’d expect her biggest flaw to be that she’s shy and needs to come out of her shell and believe in herself. But it’s actually the complete opposite—She’s so confident in herself and her ability to make Luke like her that she ends up ignoring his feelings entirely.

Idk, I just think that playing with those tropes is really fun, and I can’t wait for season two to show me her true potential by using her established traits in more interesting ways. As is, it seems like she was given an archetype the audience was supposed to see as played out or unlikable, so I hope they lean into what makes her stand out, and portray her as an actual person. Because I think her particular blend of traits can actually be quite entertaining. What does a hopeless romantic do after the romantic fantasy world she got lost in breaks apart?

I’ve been headcanoning Drew as having emotionally absent parents for so long that if it doesn’t become canon, I’ll honestly be more surprised.

It’s probably the most stereotypical family dynamic you can give a rich kid: spoiled materially, but his parents are always away traveling for work and/or just don’t give basic emotional support even if they’re physically there. But that’s exactly why it fits into a show like TMF.

Also, Hailey and Drew feel like narrative foils, so this would fit with that perfectly too. Hailey has supportive parents who encourage her to pursue her passion, yet she feels shunned at school. Drew, on the other hand, has parents who are never really there for him. Instead of encouraging his individuality, they expect him to grow up just like them and discourage him from pursuing/having any own passions.

Without even realizing it, Drew doesn’t really feel at home in his own home, so he copes by making the school feel like his territory. And because he lacks any real sense of autonomy over his own future, he unconsciously feels the need to control the people around him.

I would not wish a friend group like the Jomies on my worst enemy

They’re all bullies. Character A has to hide who he is for fear of getting rejected. Character B is controlling as hell and hates women. Characters C objectifies women. Character D doesn’t take no for an answer. Character E puts down other women and cheats on her boyfriend. Character F betrayed her morals to fit in and can’t take a hint. Everyone but B knows E is being groomed by an older man and does nothing. Everyone knows B is being cheated on but does nothing. C and D never take anything seriously and are “class clowns”. Character A is a coward that can’t decide who he wants to be. That group is held together by manipulation and bribery and a bunch of teenagers that refuse to acknowledge their own flaws and insecurities.

I lowk hate when pepole make a huge portion of Haliey's character the fact that she's tusntsundere, because I don't think that she is and pepole just ignore the context of situations were Haliey acts like this. We can see this type of behavior the most in her in the first two episodes when she is interating with Jake, were he usually acts cocky/ tries to flirts with her. What is important to remember, that at this point that he is still bullying her and she sees him as a bully. So is only natural that the last thing she wants to do is making it looks like she likes his attention. (because she doesn't! Absolutely not!) Because she woudl probably eat grass then feed Jake's ego. Also can we noticed that this tusntsundere act bascilly disappeares in later episodes when their friendship startes to develop. Because the reason why she was acting the way she did it was that Jake was cocking little bitch.

I really want to take a post to break down Liam's one scene in the Milliot Spin-Off. Because along with it having some of our best insight into Liam's updated characterization, since it was written most recently, it also gives me So Many Thoughts.

The first interesting thing about this scene is that it's basically Liam's first-ever prolonged interaction with female characters. He's had small lines and indirectly talked to some of the female characters a few times, but this is the first time he's actually had a real conversation with any of them. Which is particularly notable for Liam’s character, since he's built an entire persona around how much he likes girls, despite the fact he never seems to interact with them on-screen, haha.

As yucky as some of early-tmf Liam's lines are, I actually do really like the contrast it creates between the person that Liam wants to be seen as, and who he actually is. And by that I mean, we see a lot of how Liam talks about girls to his male friends, and the ladies' man persona he puts on throughout most of the series. He is confident, vulgar, and...well, clearly trying to be smooth. But then we get to see his first prolonged interaction with female characters...And he's honestly kind of pathetic?

And I'm not just talking about how he cowers once Zoey gets angry. Like, let's ask ourselves, why would Liam want to share a story about how he got horribly rejected by a girl?

The obvious explanation is that Liam's a pretty socially unaware guy. And you could argue that he just doesn't realize that Zoey and Lia are laughing at him and not with him. That interpretation makes sense when you pair it with how Liam seems to genuinely think his pick-up line was good and doesn't notice Zoey's judgmental tone when she asks if that's really what he said. He just carries on with his story.

However, I think you could go even further than that. We see in scenes like the freshman year flashback that Liam highly values positive female attention, seemingly more than positive male attention. He wants Henry to delete the scene-phase photos because he's worried about how girls' perspectives on him would change. He doesn't even bother to mention how popular guys might not think he's cool anymore.

And I think this scene could be an extension of that. If Liam does know the story is a bit embarrassing, maybe he just doesn't care. Because the girls are smiling and laughing and reacting positively, which is something he can't usually achieve when it comes to girls. And so, being as desperate for that positive attention as he is, he excitedly continues on with his story despite that fact that it doesn't reflect on him all that positively. This also gives us an explanation for why he's distracted enough to bump into Elliot--Or, well, it gives us an explanation beyond Liam being an inconsiderate asshole in general, haha.

The next thing that happens, however, seemingly does not line up with him trying to please the girls, because he insults Zoey by saying she looks like a trash can.

But the funny thing is, it doesn't really seem like he meant to insult her? At least not in an offensive way. It doesn't come across like he’s insulting her because he hates her, it comes across like he’s insulting her because he's treating her like she's one of the guys. By which I mean, he freaks out when she actually gets really mad, like he expected her to react like Henry would. To act a little frustrated with him and then laugh it off, because they're friends and she knows he's just joking. If you look closely in the last two photos, you can see his expression switch from slight hesitation/confusion (wait does she look mad?) to a very nervous smile (oh god she’s mad I better clarify that I was just kidding uh oh).

Which just shows such remarkably terrible social skills on his part that I had to point it out, because I know I say Liam has bad social skills a lot, but this is where I think it comes across most prominently. Who would ever, in their right mind, assume Zoey would be chill with someone insulting her under any circumstance? No one with any small amount of social intelligence. Only Liam could ever socially fumble this hard, which is why it's extra funny when Elliot speaks up about being jealous of Jake's social skills specifically, and not Liam's.

Anyways, Liam seemingly gets chewed out by Zoey off-screen, and unlike when Drew or Henry seem legitimately annoyed at him, Liam actually looks effected by the scolding when he comes back, like he regrets what he did.

Which does not match up with the always confident, unapologetic Liam from other scenes. Either whatever Zoey threatened him with was actually super scary and bad, or he regrets ruining the one time he seemed to be getting a positive reaction from her and her friend. Or both.

Finally, this isn’t super Liam-related, but I just think it's cute that Henry runs over to Jake immediately upon seeing him. Henry absolutely adores him, lol. Liam does not do the same, possibly because he's distracted by the Zoey incident and possibly because him and Jake aren't as close as Henry and Jake are. Or both.

So yeah, that's what I think of this scene in the lens of Liam. Only he could socially fuck up so badly that people dramatically gasp behind him at whatever he just had the nerve to say. And I find it very funny that, after building up his ladies' man persona for so long, the first-ever time we see him actually interacting with any girls, he's embarrassing himself just to please them. Like I said earlier, very fun contrast. Liam is not smooth or charismatic at all and is, in fact, the least smooth and charismatic out of all his friends. Don't let his persona or stellar voice acting fool you.

I'm really hoping for some Elliot and Jake interactions in the next season because, thier dynamic could be so fun! Elliot seeing Jake as a someone to look up to because, of his confidence and Elliot remanding Jake the way he was before meeting dromies and sees that, Elliot struggles with similar thinking patterns that, he used to (and still is) so, he tries to also help Elliot with it. Jake being this kinda mentor figure for Elliot has a lot of comedic potential since Jake shouldn't be authority to anyone ever.

Since the show "The Music Freaks" is a musical series.

As one of the main casts, and a fan favourite, drew's vocal performance in s2 has been confirmed, but giving Drew inherent natural singing talent equivalent to Jake and Hailey would break the narratives thematic logic and create a wejrd hypocrisy that undermines his established character arc.

Though one could argue that his harassment towards the music club stems from personal beef towards Hailey and Zander's performative "aspiring pop-star" personas rather than hatred for music itself, this distinction does not erase the core contradiction.

if Drew possesses genuine musical skill, his relentless mockery of the club’s passion becomes irredeemably hypocritical, and the choice would overall weaken the story’s commentary on bullying, suppressed passion, and empathy.

It also erases Jake’s unique, vulnerable character.

Jake’s hidden love of singing is his core trauma as he was bullied for his singing passion during his younger years, and he endures Drew’s mocking of the music club in silence, terrified to admit his own hobby to his best friend. If Drew shared equal singing talent, Jake’s secret struggle loses its narrative weight. the contrast between Jakes quiet suppressed passion and Drew’s cruel dismissal of music as a “lame” pursuit would be completely flattened.

Drews character is a bully, an antagonist in the first season, he mocks creative and performative hobbies to reinforce a tough unemotional persona.

If he secretly excels at singing (an emotional form of art), his aggressiveness merely makes him a cruel, contradictory character

Most importantly, it weakens the music club’s "outcast" narrative

The music club exists as the story’s group of marginalized, passionate freaks targeted by the Jomie's bullying.

Their only equalizer is their shared, earnest love for music, something none of their tormentors understand or value.

If Drew can effortlessly match their skill, the clubs identity as a safe haven for unappreciated creatives is stripped of its purpose

It also weakens the emotional tension between peachplum's toxic relationship.

The central rift between Jake and Drew hinges on one unspoken secret,,-- Jake’s love of singing, which he hides from drew and the others out of fear for the cruelty towards the club being switched to him.

If Drew sings, the core secret driving their miscommunication becomes meaningless. Jake’s fear of judgment loses all stakes, (which i argue is one of his core characteristics) and their most significant source of unresolved conflict is neutralized.

Lastly, It undermines the show’s central message about respecting others' passions

A core throughline of the musical series is that everybodys creative hobby deserves kindness.

Granting Drew singing talent while he viciously torments others for the exact same craft sends a conflicting message to the audience that skill excuses cruelty, and that passion is only worthy of respect if you wield it yourself.
