Controversial?!! How come? (I got into this show early August and therefore know NOTHING of the old dramas)
I’m also a newer fan! Early June! It’s bc Will canonically grew up all over the east coast so he technically shouldn’t have an accent or be southern!! So people find if cringe bc some people make him a stereotypical southern guy when he’s not!
I personally LOVE New Orleans (because of red dead redemption haha) so I tried my best to do extra research when writing him like this! The more u know !
Oooohh that makes sense, however, an accent like one from Louisiana doesn’t just leave. (Like most typical southern accents) It does make sense that he wouldn’t necessarily have one because he travelled a lot as a kid (Felt to be honest.) Languages and their accents just make me so giddy and I LOVED that he was southern because not a lot of mc’s are southern or show their accents. (As a typical, southern person, I take a offense at those peoples comments)
If anything, typical, southern guy?? Dude, seeing a SMART, southern character is like seeing a blue moon. I barely see them in media now that I think about it too. Like, I may be reaching, but finding a character who ISN’T a redneck but a different flavor of southern is quite difficult in popular media.
(And I loved that extra research because it felt so natural! So homey, so sweet! Hannibal was swept off his feet and Will was just so mooney over him. As you can see I’m not over that first chapter. XD)
I agree! I think even if I moved a lot from state to state my valley accent will still be present! Especially since Wills isn’t heavy in this fic it’s not too far off from canon (besides it’s a fanfic! It’s all for giggles)
I agree! Being a “typical southern” isn’t even a bad thing? So you’re well immersed in your culture, does that make you a bad stereotype? I say not!
I also agree! Will makes such a complex character that him being southern kinda just comes second. It’s not his whole personality here just a something that is who he is!
