Rare concept art refound!

Just tonight, Matsuno tweeted this old Yoshida-drawn concept artwork for Ramza! This is especially interesting because of its proportions - this more closely matches the concept artwork done for Tactics Ogre in its original incarnation. What a surprise!

Matsuno says that that the reason Ramza is “lumpy” is that the intention was that his tunic was over his protective gear, “like an American footballer.” An interesting counterpoint to the very slender Ramza that we frequently picture!

After posting this, Matsuno joked that he’d get a lot of images of Ramza being buff like a football player, and Japanese Twitter seems to know when a meme is worth running with, ‘cause they responded:
