I don't want to buy mass-produced garbage from a big box store so I go to etsy but half of etsy is now dropshipped mass-produced garbage or AI slop so I go to the local arts and crafts street market but a ton of those booths are also selling the same generic plastic objects or identical stickers or 3D printed dragons so WHERE do I buy real trinkets and art from sincere freaks

uninstall adobe acrobat. it is malware. it has been malware. these aren't opinions: acrobat meets the definition of malware.
it installs a user-login-time "startup" executable that ignores any windows directives to disable it on startup. doing so only removes the even-more-malicious taskbar-icon-creating advertisement-notification-creating process. no matter what you do, the sleeper "updater" process starts when you log in, and runs perpetually
it sends & receives encrypted network traffic both periodically and non-periodically. both are bad, both are suspicious, and a program doing both is more suspicious than the sum of their parts. and to boot: acrobat will polymorphically edit its code after such network activity
this isn't new: it has always done this. now, it does not even do the thing it is meant to: provide a way to interact with documents, which is amongst the very first features computers were built to provide. you can merely open PDFs and read some of their content in the narrow space between the requests for adobe to give them your money, and interface for features you cannot use (because you don't) or do not, have not, and will not ever need
adobe and microsoft would very much like the user's cultural norms around computers to allow for advertisement built into the local software and even operating system itself. the web being 100% advertisements was not enough! sure enough, acrobat will hijack the windows notifications system thing to give you the 2026 equivalent of pop-ups
i don't really know enough about windows software equivalents, so i'll paypal $20 to the first person that reblogs this with a list of 3-5 PDF reader/editor/etc acrobat equivalents that meet the following criteria:
open source, locally-built executables must match checksum of prebuilt distributed executable
no paid features/premium version/subscription/whatever
not a toy hobby project thing, must be windows-users-proof
cheers
Firefox's built-in PDF.js viewer: does everything you could want from a basic viewer, fast enough search, and can now do annotations for filling in forms and such
KDE Okular: is a decent viewer and can also do basic annotations, and is so not-a-toy that you can even download it on the Windows app store.
LibreOffice Draw: I don't ever really like having to open this but if you have to edit a PDF in detail it does work, and doesn't just vomit up a bunch of polygons when you give it text to work with. Better as an authoring tool than an editor.
On this day, 18 July 1969, Black Panthers held a conference in Oakland alongside the predominantly white anti-racist Young Patriots Organisation and Puerto Rican street gang-turned-radical group the Young Lords. A KPIX news report described the event as an âunconventional conventionâ which was nevertheless âwell-organised and orderlyâ, and explained that the Panthersâ motivation in holding it was to emphasise âclass struggleâ and ârevolutionary unityâ. The Young Patriots were a group of poor, mostly Appalachian migrants in Chicago. Although they opposed racism, they originally wore Confederate flags, which they believed were a symbol of rebellion. Leading Panther Fred Hampton played a key role in building links with them and other white working-class youth, until he was assassinated by police. In his speech, William "Preacherman" Fesperman of the Young Patriots, argued for armed self-defence against police brutality: "A gun on the side of a pig means two things: it means racism and it means capitalism and the gun on the side of a revolutionary, on the side of the people, means solidarity and socialism." Later, the Young Patriots abandoned the Confederate flag symbol as an irredeemable symbol of white supremacy. As former-Patriot Hy Thurman explained to Redneck Revolt: âAs we grew politically and respected the Black Panthers and the Young Lords we determined that there was no place in the movement or the world for the Confederate flag. It symbolises a period of time when our Black brothers and sisters were mere property to be sold or destroyed at the white man's convenience. And that the Confederate flag was created to serve as a symbol of plantation owners to perpetuate slavocracy.â Learn more about the Panthers in these books by former members: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/all/black-panthers

me liking a mutualâs post that directly contradicts an opinion i posted earlier in the day
You would not believe your ass
If ten million largemouth bass.
desired you while the women flee
"ingredients you can pronounce" "all natural" "organic" "no chemicals"
i think im in love with you
i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeah𤤠i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which I call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter

Please keep making art. Please make it for yourself. Please donât let everything become even more of the same flat general appeal nonsense that doesnât seem to have anything to say
this applies hard to both fanfiction and fanart yall. was gonna put it in the tags but nah id rather it be here. mostly directed at newer ppl in fandoms but theres been such a sharp rise in censoring and puritanical thinking in fan spaces- especially on tiktok, where they seem intent on rehashing all fandom discourse other sites have already gone over a decade ago. its soso important to push back on those kinds of things, to not give any ground. there truly is no such thing as 'objectively bad' content, and it is important to be able to see that.
all art is subjective, because all art is injested and filtered by the viewers, all of whom are different. something empowering to one might seem fetishistic to another. there is no monolithic experience for anything, and as such there can be no monolithic 'correct' depiction of anything. no matter how santitized you make your work, you will never please everyone. there will always be someone upset with you, someone who thinks you did it wrong, someone who thinks your work sucks and that you should delete it. they will always be there. do not gut and mutilate your own creations to better fit puritanical ideals, because it will never be enough. you will simply keep slicing away until there is nothing left and even then you will get hate and criticism. better to be upfront with everything.
write without shame. draw without shame. paint without shame. edit without shame. shame is a learned behavior, and it can be unlearned. if they will hate you and your work regardless, why not be honest with it?
do not give ground. do not concede that any art is 'objectively wrong' to create. they will take that ground and they will keep pushing, just as they have in the past.
all art is subjective
