16 Skk, where Dazai secretly wants to dress up for Halloween, but acts like he's too grown up for that sort of thing. He has a reputation to protect and he can't have his subordinates thinking of him as a little kid.
He plans to take out his frustration on Chuuya, by implying that Chuuya definitely wants to dress up. He knows Chuuya also cares about his reputation way too much and it will really get under his skin to call him a little school boy who still plays pretend. It gets Dazai giddy to think of all Chuuya's red faced blustering he's going to witness.
Of course Chuuya's going to act like he's 'too cool' for dressing up, Dazai can't wait to chase him around with the tacky little devil horns he got from the store.
Only when Dazai finds Chuuya his plan goes out the window, because Chuuya is already in a costume.
In the middle of a debriefing.
After he's finished factory resetting Dazai scans his mind, trying to figure out when Chuuya lost a bet to him and Dazai demanded he dress up at Halloween as a consequence. But he draws a blank.
He didn't even notice Chuuya walking up to him, he was that out of it, not until Chuuya flicks his forehead. "Oi, quit staring, it's creepy."
"You're in a costume." Is all Dazai can manage.
"Yea? It's Halloween, obviously I'm in a costume. It's embarrassing you're not." Chuuya replies, looking him over and adding. "And no, your usual mummy boy get up doesn't count."
Because Chuuya grew up in The Sheep. Children fighting to stay children. Children who didn't have adults to tell them they're too old to dress up. Who probably clung to every chance they got to feel like regular kids again. Of course, they had Halloween parties every year and made patchwork costumes. Chuuya never learned to be embarrassed about dressing up.
In fact, Chuuya continues to have Halloween parties every year and, yes, you are required to dress up. If you show up to his party without a costume, he has a closet of shame costumes you must choose from or leave and get your own.
And Dazai also learns that it's okay to embrace being a kid sometimes.
