1- yes! They are mammals!! Because they actually are humans turned into half fish bcs of a curse! The mermaids are human women/girls murdered and thrown into the sea, cursed by the ocean as an immortal creature. They're usually friendly and help pirates and others sailors if their heart are kind but if not, they don't come close (Kind-hearted sailors are so rare that mermaids are often considered fairytales ^^)
2- they're fish. Not reptilian or amphibian! They have scales, gills (no human nose), they are born from eggs (no belly button! And the chest It's just used as a bait), fish eyes and live ONLY on water
3- They both live in the light zone! Sirens feed and reproduce exclusively on humans
4- Mermaids will always be in the sea, where they are always killed (before the curse) by pirates or any other type of sailor! But Sirens are a species of their own, so there are variations for the sea, swamp, and rivers.
5- mermaid can eat everything, again they're humans with a curse. Sirens eat exclusively humans
6- mermaids are social. Sirens are territorial so quite solitary
7- Mermaids are the result of a curse, so they don't necessarily have a function in the ecosystem/enviroment! And Sirens....im not very sure yet!
8- Sirens are territorial and agressive with big species but smaller ones are okay. Mermaids have a friendly relationship with the sea creatures in general.
9- mermaids only ocean, sirens depends but usually not veeery shallow waters
10- yes ofc! But Sirens can't close their eyes, so they sleep with their eyes open LOL
11- mermaids...Human intelligence so yeah... Sirens are in the same level of learning capabilities as dolphins🫡
