After 30 years, you open your eyes, and see a long-gone lover. After 30 years, you see the same face you wish you had been given the chance to see every single day. After 30 years, you can finally reach your hand out, and feel the long-lost warmth you have always longed for. After 30 years, you look into his eyes, and you’re still there.
But this mere meeting is never meant to bring you back together. Because 30 years ago, you broke up. Because 30 years ago, you weren’t the person the other needed. The slight meeting of the eyes, and the soft touches of the hands are only to remind you that you can love - and that you once loved so greatly.
The surprise brought about by the Universe hopes to remind you that Love is never confined in the present Space and Time. It transcends through Space and Time. Love travels through the tenses of Time; if there really were tenses we can confine Time with.
Love, no matter how much we want it to always be Kind, has other greater purposes for Humanity. It is not anchored on the premise to just bind two lovers together; rather, it is anchored on the very basic premise that Humans must love greatly, and work hard to be together. Love makes you work; makes you see beyond the present Time; makes you run the extra mile to Spaces, and; it makes you Timeless.
And even in the loss of a great Love, Love still lives in the hurts of the Present. Even after 30 years, as you look into the eyes of the other, there is still the call of Love - because it has transcended from the yesteryears, to tell you, how great those times were. And never can it be replaced with any other upcoming Times and Moments. Maybe, just maybe, Love didn’t have to transcend any tense of Time; because it has always, and will always be there.
To Marina Abramovic and Ulay, after 30 years.
