As the community of Instagrammers has grown and connected people across the globe, so too has our ability to share some of the personal, hidden and beautiful locations in our hometowns.

In the second of our two-part series of local guides to London, Instagrammer Adam Sheath (@adamsheath) takes us around one of the city’s most famous parks and its hidden secrets: “For lovers or nature and country walks, there’s no better place to escape the hustle and bustle of London life than Hampstead Heath. Not only does ‘The Heath’ offer great walking paths surrounded by woods, ponds and wildlife, you can stroll up to the top of Parliament Hill (otherwise known as Kite Hill) and be greeted with a skyline view of London – the Shard, St. Paul’s Cathedral and The Gherkin and can all be seen from here. Tip: visit in snowfall for a magical winter wonderland experience.

"Other treats in this great location include Kenwood House (a grand, white neo-classical building housing a free art gallery with famous works), the Pergola and Hill Garden, Hampstead’s best-kept secret and a firm favorite for fashion photographers wanting a perfect setting. Tip: Go in Summer when the Pergola is covered in fragrant flowers or on weekdays to have the place to yourself.”

Cooking in Médoc, France, with @mimithor

"My life also revolves around food and so does the account," explains Mimi Thorisson, a French food blogger living in Médoc, France, with her husband, six children and 14 dogs. Mimi took to Instagram two years ago and "instantly loved it." Like her blog, the account is a joint effort with her husband Oddur. Sometimes the two will craft a shot together, or, as Mimi explains, she’ll occasionally just take a picture of something that catches her eye.

Her photos often depict special family moments in the secluded region of Médoc, from harvesting grapes with her children to a forest dinner with friends.

"I love living here in the French countryside, and since it’s all relatively new to me I am amazed every day about something I see or experience. When you are amazed, you want to share. Médoc is a bit secluded from the rest of France, not picturesque in the same way as, say, Dordogne but to me is even more gorgeous with a different kind of austere beauty that I hope my account captures."

Of course, there’s also a lot of food with on-the-table images of Mimi’s explorations into French and Asian cuisine inspired by her childhood in Hong Kong and summers at her grandmother’s house in the south of France.

"I have always been obsessed with food, first Chinese as a small child and then as I grew a bit older, French food. Neither of my parents did much home-cooking, but I was fortunate enough to have a french grandmother and aunt who loved cooking and they taught me a lot."

DESIGN: David Karp’s $1.6M Williamsburg Loft

David Karp, the founder of recent Yahoo billion dollar acquisition Tumblr purchased a $1.6 million dollar apartment in Williamsburg last year. He has since renovated it and gave the first look to New York Times’ T Magazine.

The apartment is surprisingly minimalist and free of technology for a tech entrepreneur. It is simple and crafted with quality materials as opposed to being over the top and fitted with flat screens that appear out of the floor.

That episode where you find out that a member of the zany villain squad actually has a heartbreaking past, which includes a bit where he pushes himself to perform a feat that has never been done before and has never been done since, all for the sake of love, only to be rejected as a freak.

James had abusive (at the very least neglectful, but they didn’t care how he was treated so long as he awarded them prestige) parents who had engaged him to a sociopath, who wanted to whip him and change everything about him to be more “presentable.” He ran away and was on the streets for a long time before he finally joined a crime ring.

Jesse was raised by a single mother, and the two of them were so poor that they rarely had actual food; her mother would make her a “feast” out of snow in the winter that Jesse considered to be a treat because that’s how badly they were starving. If the audio dramas are to be believed, Jesse’s mother was also a member of Team Rocket, who disappeared (read: died) on an expedition searching for Mew, leaving Jesse alone. And then Jesse, like James (and Meowth) was so desperate for a means to survive that she (inadvertently?) followed in her mother’s footsteps and joined Team Rocket/a life of crime just to get by.

“Zany villains” they may be, but Jesse, James, and Meowth are the three deepest characters on the show. I love them.
