Can we just talk about Switzerland for a minute because I feel like he’s very underappreciated I mean he saved Liechtenstein’s life and fed her when he had no food for himself and puts everything into making sure she’s happy and he got so upset with himself for thinking about Austria he put a bucket over his head and punched himself because he still cares about him and he’s mad and he has this neurotic obsession with saving money and he seems all angry and cold but he really cares and arggh I just really love him ok

He’s my favorite character in Hetalia and everyone thinks he just shoots around and saves money. He’s more than that and really is a very interesting guy. His history is also so interesting but nobody knows this. If they did, people would probably appreciate him more. Swiss Mercenaries anyone?

→ Queen Margrethe I of Denmark, Norway and Sweden

Margrethe I practically ruled Scandinavia for a quarter of a century until she died - probably of the plague - on a ship in 1412.

Her story begins in Denmark in 1387, where she is born as the youngest out of 6 children to King Valdemar IV of Denmark and Queen Hedvig.

Her childhood is dominated by her father’s wars with the other Nordic countries and the plague, which is haunting Europe. At the age of 10 she is married and sent to Norway to her 23-year-old husband, King Haakon, as a part of her father’s scheming power play. Seven years later a son, Oluf, is born. Oluf becomes King of Denmark at the age of 5, when his grandfather King Valdemar IV dies. Only 5 years later, Oluf also becomes King of Norway when his father King Haakon dies. Margrethe is chosen as regent for her son.

Margrethe’s son King Oluf dies at the age of 17 and Margrethe is chosen to be continued regent until she can provide a King. Sweden is plauged by civilwar and Margrethe is chosen as regent for a large part of Sweden. She is later chosen as regent over all of Sweden and Sweden’s King Albert is taken prisoner.

Margrethe is now the regent of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

Margrethe continues to strenghten her position in Scandinavia. She becomes a military-leader, reduces the Privy Councils’ power, controls the lords and merchants, secures peace between the people and the government and founds the Kalmar Union. In 1396 she adopts her sister’s 5-year-old son Bogislaw, changes his name to Erik and crowns him King. Margrethe works as regent for her foster-son for the rest of her life.

Margrethe tries to reunite Schlegswig with the rest of Denmark. She takes a showdown with the Holsteinian League and wins Flensburg.

On Octorber 26, 1412, Margrethe dies of unknown causes on a ship near Flensburg. 

Margrethe was an iconic regent who after her death is buried in huge pomp and splendor in Roskilde Cathedral in Denmark.

The painting portrays Queen Consort Caroline Mathilde of Denmark playing chess with, the infamous Struensee, her lover and and secret regent of Denmark.

On the couch is the schizophrenic King Christian VII of Denmark playing with a parrot. In the backgrund with a fan is his “evil” stepmother Dowager Queen Juliana Maria.

Struensee was the King’s physician and friend. He slowly took all power away from Christian and began to rule Denmark himself. In 1771 Struensee fathered Caroline’s daughter Princess Louise Augusta. In 1772 Caroline and Struensee was captured and imprisoned. Struensee had his right hand cut off, was executed and had his genitals cut off. Caroline was divorced and deported to Germany. She never saw her children again.

Dowager Queen Juliana Maria tried on several occasions to overthrow Christian and make her son Hereditary Prince Frederik (Christian’s half brother) king. 

Christian remained oblivious and isolated throughout his reign.

This girl is really confusing, cause it wasn’t really ever a huge impact on European history until the 1300’s stopped and then started back up in the 1800’s, thus there isn’t allot of things to work with. ;-;”” Also Himaruya puts as and names the strip ”Liechtenstein’s origins” of her after WW2. but is it said she was passed off from Nation to Nation so she must have been born WAY before then.

Her Birthdate July 12th, considered to 1806, so she has already existed in that time period.
