She still couldnât understand WHY Bill had abandoned the Quarantine Zones, to live in an abandoned city full of bloody infected⊠He couldnât hold them off forever, could he? The again, that was Bill. He had probably made up some crazy new invention to keep the infected away from him.
âMaybe he needs to get his ass kicked to be convinced.â
âReckon that might work...â Joel answered, shaking his head a little as he rose back onto his feet. While there was hardly anyone breaking down the door for supplies, the demand was something that could easily be capitalized on by someone else. The last thing they all needed was someone trying to muscle in on what had been solidly established as their territory. Considering how fierce they all were, it would only end in a bloodbath.Â
âThink we oughta go see âim?â
"Did you ever not have a beard?"
The smile that crept onto his lips was a genuine one, he couldnât nor wouldnât deny that. Stopping for a moment, the abandoned and silent city laying ahead of them like some kind of permanent ghost, he looked back at Ellie, the tired feeling in his bones momentarily forgotten. The beard had become something of an identifier for him now, with so much of the world still trying to cling onto what little shreds of humanity they all had left.Â
In his case, the beard was a combination of trying to forget who heâd been in the past, along with the fact that finding any kind of decent razor had become a chore he couldnât be bothered with.Â
âWhat do you think?â he asked, wanting to see what kind of answer sheâd give him before he decided to answer the question that so obviously didnât need an answer.Â
[Trying to get caught up with homework for school, so Iâll more than likely have to do drafts later tonight or tomorrow. I apologize for any inconvenience :( ]

a WAVE of satisfaction rushes through her. she feels powerful. â thatâs right .. â memories she had tucked away creep up & pierce her ears. familiarity. â fuck off, donât tell me what to do. â a scoff & she comes around the desk, standing directly in front of the him. â â- ⊠â god, sheâs starving. & thirsty, too. â i want everything you have. water, cans â everything. â the gun is raised to his head & she can see him now. she shutters, but blames it on her cruel mind. over the years sheâs seen strangers wearing joelâs face many times. teasing her, reminding her that he NEVER CAME. itâs not him. not possible. â now. â
For a moment, the words sheâs used make him think of Ellie, as hard as heâd tried to keep those memories tucked away. At this point, he doesnât even want to think about whether sheâs alive or dead. Even that was too painful to fathom. Heâd trusted her, and in the end, sheâd left. Whether or not it was by choice, however, was something heâd always wonder about. Till the very end of his days. ââlright...â He answered, still keeping his tone as calm as he could manage. Considering the gun pointed at his head, there werenât a lot of options. For now, the only thing he could see was to at least play along till he could spy an opening.Â

Honestly, Tess wasnât the most HUMOROUS person one could meet but she managed to lighten the atmosphere under certain circumstances. She knew Joel wasnât going to be offended, so she blurted out whatever came in her head that very moment.
âNot a word from the bastard. He shouldâve contacted us by now.â
Shaking his head at his partnerâs words, Joel knew that there could be a multitude of reasons why Bill hadnât managed to get in contact with either of them yet. Considering that the town he had taken as his own was empty, apart from what he was sure was a healthy population of Infected, it couldnât be the simplest of things to contact anyone. Especially about things they all knew others would be willing to take by force.Â
âThink he needed a little more time?â
firefledgling:
A tsk comes naturally from her lips, he obviously wasnât up to anything GOOD. Then again, he could come in handy for her own trouble. If heâd wanted to kill her, he would have already. Hands shove into her jean pockets, glancing passed him. â â Uh⊠How many soldiers did you have to get through that way?â
Some might not have been as willing to ignore the unspoken rule of âshoot first, ask questions laterâ as Joel, but even time couldnât harden him that much. With the world as devastated as it was, there wasnât anything that would make him become so cold as to just take anyone around him out. Glancing over his shoulder, he shook his head a little, still not knowing why he felt the need to answer anything.
âBunch...reckon theyâre lookinâ for somebody...â

she canât see a face â no features, just a tall foreign figure she automatically presumes to be a man. & with her gun raised, she curses; eyes growing dark. â put your weapon down. NOW. put it on the ground & donât even think about making a move because I WILL shoot you. â
Even as he froze, Joel could feel his grip on the gun tightening. Years upon years of just trying to survive had conditioned him to distrust anyone around him. Loss had taught him that lesson all too well. Sarah, Tess, Ellie, all of them had been ripped away from him, reminding him of what happened when he actually let someone into what remained of his life.Â
ââlright, take it easy...â He mumbled, forcing his grip on the gun to loosen slightly as he carefully placed it down on a nearby desk. Worse comes to worse, he knew he can retrieve it quickly. Looking over his shoulder slightly, he couldnât shake the feeling that the voice sounded familiar, even if he couldnât place it.Â
"It was a sweet day when I realized legal and illegal had nothing to do with right and wrong."
The laugh had already left his lips before he even realized it. Shaking his head a little, chest heaving with the laughter he hardly found a way to use, Joel looked up at Ellie, surprised he had managed to hold onto the cup of something resembling coffee.Â
âYou even know what youâre talkinâ âbout..?â
âȘ
Our muses are sitting together, when yours suddenly falls asleep on mine. Send me a âȘ for my characterâs reaction.
It had been a long day. Of that, there was no doubt. Between the hoard of Clickers that had somehow managed to find their way out of the city, to the fact that the supply run theyâd been sent on hadnât yielded anything useful, there was truly nothing to smile about. Most of the time, the Dam was secure, but it was obvious that the Clickers had been a wake-up call. Nowhere was a hundred percent secure, and the illusion that the Dam was could easily have gotten them killed.
The feeling of weight leaning against his arm drawing his thoughts away from the fire he was still stirring, Joel wasnât surprised to see Ellie all but passed out against him. Theyâd both come too close to Clickers for their own comfort, something heâd been more than willing to leave behind them. The hand probing the fire falling still, he could feel his own eyelids drawing down on him, although he doubted heâd find sleep easily that night. Most nights were like that.
Carefully tossing the poker into the fire, ensuring that it would burn up with the remainder of the burning logs, he likewise managed to pick Ellie up with the same amount of care. Turning towards the dimly lit house behind them, the lanterns in the window just barely offering any resistance to the dark night, he tried his best to step lightly, leaving the still glowing embers burning behind them.Â
