I was asked by San Francisco gallery Spoke Art to contribute to their upcoming show ‘Lord of The Thrones’. The exhibition brings together a plethora of artists who had the choice to either create a piece of artwork based on the TV series of Game Of Thrones or the film adaptations of Lord of The Rings.
I couldn’t resist choosing to create something based on the Lord of The Rings story and after some time re-watching the three films, taking notes and creating thumbnails I came up with something titled ‘The Fall Of Sauron’ which aims to summarise the story within the single image.
I’ll reveal the full artwork shortly but for now here are some WIP shots of the work coming together.

Here’s an ivy study and details from last week.
Krampus, pencil, 2015.
Here’s the last one from me from 2015 (which I forgot to post), a Krampus study that unfortunately due to the festivities didn’t make it into ink before the ideal timing. Above is the process of how the study came together.
More from me soon.
Bat study (final inks and quick colour exploration), pen and ink, 2015.
Death’s Head Moth study, pen and ink, 2015.
Here’s some progress and detail shots of my Electric Wizard piece.
ELECTRIC WIZARD
Earlier this year I went to see Electric Wizard in London and left the gig with the urge to create my version of what an actual electric wizard would would like.
I’ve been chipping away at this for what seems like an age so it feels good to finally show you what I’ve been working on for all this time.
THE TRAVELLER - PROCESS
Here’s the stages of how I created my latest drawing, ‘The Traveller’. Shortly after drawing the figure which I borrowed from a photograph I took on a recent trip to Porto I realised that I should do more with the image.
Working in some basic background elements I was able to attempt some other techniques and subject matter which hopefully makes the piece more interesting.
THE TRAVELLER
Here’s the result of what I’ve been chipping away at over the past couple of days whenever I had a spare moment. A little piece I’ve called ‘The Traveller’, I’ll put up the process of this one shortly.
Here’s my completed study and the stages of progress of the ‘Statue of Mercury’ by Jacopo Sansovino in Venice, Italy.
Today is the anniversary of another year around the sun for me. A good excuse to practice some typography.
Here’s the pencil rough and inked final.
Fallen.
I came across a World War I statue on the way to a meeting last month and thought it was beautiful so I decided to create a study of it adding a few little tweaks to help bring something else to the image.
It was great to learn as I created this image which I feel could have been done more effectively, the aim being to carry the knowledge I’ve gained from this one into the next piece.
Eclipse.
I thought I’d get some practice in with a different paperstock and the pens. Shame my view wasn’t this good of the eclipse last week.
Finished up this study from a recent trip to Venice. Great to get more practice in with pens but still a long way to go.
WIP of a Giuseppe Torreti sculpture on the San Stae church in Venice.
