Fanfiction Cover Explanation for Stucky Halloween 2023
(Examples of the cover design and style, your covers will look like).
Hello, dears, with summary submissions coming up, I wanted to walk you through how I make fanfiction covers, so you'll have an idea of what I need for your cover.
I chose this style and design for our covers this year because it visually connects all of our stories.
Step 1: What's the essence of your story?
The first thing I need to know is what is the essence of your story. For example, this story is about death and grief, so bright and happy colors would not capture its essence.
Not only does the essence of your story help me with the color scheme, but it also helps me with the main design elements such as the focus of the cover and the feeling of the font.
Step 2: What's something that has to be on your cover?
The second thing I need to know is if there's something that has to be on your cover. With this particular cover, the author was adamant that the symbol needed to be on the cover.
Please do this within reason. I have some design limits, and I might not be able to do everything. But knowing that this symbol had to be on this cover really dictated what this cover would look like.
Step 3: What if your cover needs something extra?
The third thing I will consider with all covers is if it's finished or if it needs something more. With this cover in particular, the inspiration is so iconic that it made the entire design fairly easy.
But the focus and the font simply were not enough. So, I decided to add the deadlights in the background because it just needed something a little extra.
Step 4: How does it all come together?
The essence of your story is really the most important thing because it affects how I choose graphics and fonts and colors for your cover. If there's something that has to be on your cover, I have to work that into the design, for example, this story was about werewolves, so I needed a wolf!
I usually try out a lot of different fonts and graphics until I find something that perfectly captures the essence of your story.
I am so excited to create your covers!
