The Gate Series (Vryburg, 2021)

- seeks to explore the vulnerability of people living in rural (disenfranchised) South African communities. the gate, as an object, acts as a buffer between the inside and outside (us and them) and is ultimately regarded as security.

with this ongoing series (started in 2021), I intend to show the vulnerability most people living in these communities are subjected to. this is in terms of keeping danger out of their homes or even having to afford erecting a gate we could regard as being up to security standards.
