12 hr study session today is not sitting well with my head
Enjoying life again, my two biggest uni assignments are done done done 🌸🍵
3/100 days of productivity
reflecting on my path in academia thus far and feeling overwhelmingly grateful. i made a post back in 2018 on this account saying i toured my dream college. here’s a graduation pic from 2023, at the same dream college. 🥲 I’m in my dream PhD program, engaged to my lovely finacée, and i have TWO cats.
life is so good and man did it get better after high school!!!! 🥂
work today: got a huge result / breakthrough on my research! spent a super focused 5 hours to get it… :)
2/100 days of productivity - my computer is bugging out and I messed up my software. sos. hoping for better days tomorrow.
“I hate school I’m sorry Malala”- Funny yet poignant. Acknowledges both the difficulty of the task and the fact that doing that task is a privilege. Gives credit to the people who fought for that privilege with a tongue in cheek acknowledgement of the irony of the initial statement
“I’m just a girl I should be home baking bread not doing calculus” - at best historically uninformed at worst leaps decades back in time. Refusal to acknowledge the charged history of education and slights the centuries of women’s labor it took to reach this point
1/100 days of productivity
will set my goals here and check them off at the end of each day:
speed run (2 miles)
finish and send files to collaborator (this code will not run 😭)
submit class assignment
edit tables in paper
send bday cards to parents
going to do 100 days of productivity because I do in fact need to lock in
what i am focusing on:
- publishing my first paper
- marathon training
- preparing for qualifying exams
and all i loved, i loved alone

the key to surviving grad school (also maybe life but definitely grad school) is to pick a side quest every few months or so. something that brings you joy and that you can get better at over time, independent of whether or not your research or classes are going well. put your need for academic validation to use in a non-academic setting and everything will feel less dire and you will learn you are more than your work
the freedom of saturday mornings - doing all of the things, very slowly
i've been sending my supervisor (very nice 60 something year old white man, very grandfatherly vibes) my thesis proposal document under the filename "bad draft" and he just sent me my final revisions under the file name "rad draft"
