How to Research
Ok, so hereâs the thing.
Research is important for almost any committee. Yeah, if youâre really, really, really smart and talk really, really well, you might be able to get away without researching (much).
But, like 99.99% of you wonât be able to do that. So, start with Wikipedia. Wikipedia is reliable most of the time. Wikipedia will give you a country overview and hopefully, will make you feel more connected to that country. On top of that, it will probably give you ideas of what to look for.
Then, look up the topic and your countryâs stance on it if that wasnât already on Wikipedia. Even if it was, you want more sources. I use a plugin to save all my sources. You can bookmark/favorite your sources too. Make sure that your sources are organized for your research binder.
You also want sources for solutions. You donât want to have just your countryâs stance. If you have no ideas for solutions, then thereâs not much of a point, since in committee, you are trying to work for a solution that benefits your country the most. If the topic is reporter rights, and youâre Russia, then your solution might be to make sure that countries can do whatever with reporters in their country. Thatâs fine.
Make sure that you have some unique ideas, other than just creating a sub-committee or just a fund.
brain: u gotta be⌠The Bestâ˘
me: ok so weâll work hard then?
brain: no work⌠only Best.
How to take good notes
So, I personally like to re-write my notes at home, because otherwise they are a jumbled mess. So here are my tips for revision notes.
1. Title: I like to use a highlighter/midliner to do this. I take a that goes with the color scheme I am going for (pink highlighter with a pink pen.) I like to do block letters or bubble letters. (There are many more things you can do though.)
2. Method: I like to use an outlining method, but you could do the Cornell method. (For one set of notes, I made a table, but Iâll talk about that in a separate post.)
Outlining Method: For this method use the same color pen as the title, and use that for subheadings. Once Iâve wrote the subheading, I take a black pen, and write out the definition of the subheading (if there is one). Then I start using bullet points to show key points. I am still using a black pen.
Cornell Method: If you prefer to use the Cornell Note Method, I recommend that you for your questions, you write them in whatever color you used for your title. When you write your answers to the questions, I would recommend using a black pen so itâs easy to distinguish the questions from the answers. When you do the summary, use the color you used for the title to write your subheading. Then use your black pen to write out the rest of your summary.
3. Diagrams: When writing your notes, consider adding diagrams, such as graphs, tables, charts, or models (ex- DNA, Cell, etc.) These can help you visualize what you are talking about in your notes.
I hope this helps! If you have any other tips, leave them down below! I will be making a corresponding YouTube video to go a long with this post! Thanks for reading!

THANK u my notes are always so hectic
this book was an oof but at least I got a super easy essay topic
gentle reminder for when you feel demotivated
thereâs nothing wrong with feeling demotivated, so please donât punish yourself for that â everyone, even the most successful people in the world, can fall into a slump
you can do it
i believe in you
itâs not going to be as bad as you think
donât place too high expectations on yourself, especially when youâre feeling low
set small and specific goals â little steps are always important
print out or write down what you need to do and put that note where you know youâre going to see it
set yourself a specific time for when youâre going to start working on something, but donât put too much pressure on yourself if youâre unable to
see what others are doing and achieving, and use that as motivation instead of comparing yourself to them and putting yourself down
call for help from others to cheer you on when you canât do it on your own
counter your negative thoughts with positive ones
think about the benefits of doing the task, instead of the difficulties it will take to get there
take deep breaths and take a step back when things become too overwhelming or the stress takes over (hereâs a written breathing exercise, or a gif you can breathe along with)
take breaks, donât overload yourself
if you think that your schedule is becoming more and more of the same thing every single day, that can heavily impact your motivation - so try your best to try something new, or even just do something that you would usually do in a different way, or with a different outlook; it doesnât matter if the change you make is big or small, because every attempt goes towards progress
when youâve completed what you needed to, or even just worked at it a little bit, make sure to congratulate yourself, because youâre trying and iâm so proud of you for that
try your best, because your best is good enough
you got this
