📚:The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wulf
🎶: Dreamflower, Tarika Blue
I’ve been trying to slowly change my routine, which is agonizing for me but better in the long run, to balance school life and personal health through finding time to exercise. The first day went well, but tomorrow will be the test to see how that works around my job and not just my schoolwork.

Reading: Hollow by B. Catling
🎶Strawberry Afternoons, Lonely Benson
No pictures of my studying today, but I’m working on a draft of a genre study in Youth Services. I’m doing a research paper on Sci-fi, specifically for the 5-8th grade range (“tweens”).
To reward myself for focusing on school, since I’m at a pretty good point in my paper, I went to a museum in the morning before returning home and going back to work. It was lovely to have that calm colorful atmosphere as a small mental break.

December 16, 2021 | Nearing finals
Reading: A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
I finished one class out of two in my first term, and I have an approaching final project for my second class due in a few days. I’m enjoying the free time that has opened up with the term coming to a close, and I’m excited for the start of next term.
Nov. 28, 2021 | Lesson Planning
🎵Sunbeams, Taloha Beats and Chill Select
I had another four day weekend since Thanksgiving and Indigenous Heritage Day are paid holiday’s at the library.
I’ve spent the weekend rearranging my room to finally get natural light at my desk, and now I’ve made bubble tea. I’ve been enjoying taking time to learn how to lesson plan since I need it for one of my portfolio assignments.
I’ve picked up a new book, “The Old Drift” by Namali Sepwell, at my library before the weekend. Unfortunately I haven’t started it yet, but the reviews look promising.

🎶Time Alone, Softy/Lucid Green
I’ve adjusted to the busy schedule, and now I have a four day weekend due to getting paid holiday’s off. About to spend the time reading and working on two of the bigger projects I have due this week. One is a source analysis of different reference sources, and another is an environmental scan of a library.
Of course, two of the books I have are related to writing, both for NaNoWriMo and my poetry in general (“Who Says?: Mastering Point of View in Fiction” by Lisa Zeidner and “My Shouting, Shattered, Whispering Voice” by Patrice Vecchione) and two are random books I found interest in browsing the library catalogs (“Homesick for Another World” by Ottessa Moshfegh and “Lagom: The Swedish Art of Living a Balanced, Happy Life” by Niki Brantmark).
10/30/21 | Halloween Weekend
🎬His House (2020)- Horror film directed by Remi Weekes
I have a soft spot for horror, being virtually raised on horror films. Horror and comedy are the two genres I’ll be found watching majority of the time, especially if it’s a movie over a TV series.
It’s also my first full weekend off at the library, and I enjoy working there so far. My weekend has been spent, and will continue to be spent, cleaning, revising papers and drafts, and browsing through all the horror films I can get my hands on.
10/23/2021 | Forming a Reference Scenario
🎶Sunsoaked by Adib Sin, Salsa
Today, I decided to work on a draft for a fake reference interview scenario that’s due for my Reference and Info Librarian Services course. I wanted to also enjoy the sun and cooler weather, so I sat outside to work on it. It’s really interesting how the reference interview is a structured but unstructured process, something that has defined stages you can work around but also tends to be done without thinking for people more experienced in library services.
Also mentally preparing to start my new job at one of my county’s libraries in two days. By “Mentally Preparing” I mean trying to get as far ahead in school work as possible because I’ve never had a full time job before and don’t know how exhausted I’ll be for a short while.
10/20/21 | Reintroducing myself
Hello! I figured that since it’s been awhile I’ll reintroduce myself.
I’m a graduate student in an online Masters of Library and Information Science Program
I have a B.S. in Psychology
I was recently offered full time employment at a library circulation desk for a public library in my area, which is close to the area I wanted to pursue in my career.
I consider myself an emerging writer, as one of my goals is to get poetry published
My other hobbies I may post about here include art, specifically painting
I am non-binary, and use she/they pronouns
I live somewhere in the Southern United States
I am also Autistic
This blogs main focus will be academics, followed by library science, poetry, and occasionally painting.
10/17/21 | Lazy Sunday
My living room gets more natural light than my desk at the moment, I feel like I really need to rearrange my room. But, I get to listen to asynchronous lectures and work on a paper from a comfortable spot.
Study motivation and other tips:
Try to remember that there is no single strategy that will work for everyone when it comes to studying and staying motivated.
However, there are plenty of options that you can try, to see if they work for you. If they do, you should try and incorporate them into your ongoing study routine. If not, then put them aside and try something else.
The important thing is whether your strategy keeps you motivated, not whether other people agree with you. Try not to compare yourself to others.
Study tips:
Try not to procrastinate too much:
Avoiding work can make you feel deflated. This can be more emotionally draining than having to go through the frustration of reading for your paper. Try to become aware of the habit and gently make yourself go back to the task sooner rather than later. (That being said there’s nothing wrong with procrastinating every now and then.)
Try to understand your studying style better:
What will make it easier for you to work?
We are all prone to pleasant experiences and it is natural that we tend to avoid uncomfortable, dry chores and duties. So try to make your study experience as interesting as possible. For example, if you’re a visual learner, try making mind maps and coloured flash cards etc.
Take a time limited approach:
Rather than telling yourself, “I’m going to complete all of these tasks today.” try to say to yourself, “I’m going to study as much as I can for half an hour.” In this way you do not get as easily overwhelmed by the volume of study you need to do.
Break the task down into manageable chunks:
A big task, such as writing an essay or revising for an extended period, can be demotivating because it seems so big.
Breaking the task down into manageable chunks can therefore help make it seem less daunting.
For example, if you have a large written assignment, break the assignments into chunks. Plan out and bullet point what you want to say for each section, then when you come to write it fully, it won’t seem as daunting and you are less likely to stress out over what point you’re trying to make.
Get into a study routine:
It is generally easier to stay motivated if your studying becomes part of your everyday life and routine. Set aside a little bit of time to read notes, plan assignments, etc. Even if you do just 15 minutes a day, you’ll feel much more accomplished.
(I find that it’s the content of a study session that matters more than the time. For example, it’s better to do half an hour of concentrated study than to do 7 hours of studying where you don’t remember anything at the end.)
Create a schedule:
The act of creating a study schedule is a form of commitment, so it will help you to stay motivated.
For example:
For each subject, make a list of the tasks you need to complete in order to be ready for the exam.
Make or download a study schedule template and block out the times you have available each day to study
Create a daily plan which lists the most important tasks to be completed for the day
Review your study schedule at the end of each week.
Assess whether you’re on track to reach your study goals by exam time.
If you’re not, adjust your schedule by finding additional blocks of time for studying.
Try the Pomodoro technique:
Francesco Cirillo invented the technique in Italy in the late 1980s. Using a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato (“pomodoro” means tomato in Italian), he found he could concentrate better by studying in short stretches.
Decide on the task that you’ll work on
Set the timer for 25 minutes
Work on the task
Stop working when the timer rings
Put a check mark on a piece of paper
If you have fewer than four check marks, take a 3- to 5-minute break, then repeat from Step 1
After four pomodoros, take a 15- to 30-minute break
Draw a line through the four check marks and start counting your check marks afresh
You’re not going to feel motivated all the time and that’s okay:
The fact is that no one feels motivated all the time. So don’t rely on feeling motivated in order to get the work done. Sometimes the motivation just won’t be there. That’s why you need a study routine and study habits, because systems always beat motivation.
For the anon that asked:
You don’t have to answer this, but how do you stay motivated while studying and doing assignments? I love the Studyblr community, but I don’t feel like I’m a valid member in it because so can’t stay motivated. I stress about assignments, and end up giving up before I begin.
10/14/21 | Library Day
I am back and in my first semester of attaining my MLIS (Master of Library and Information Sciences).
