Reblog for a blessing on your dash âš
I am still in utter disbelief at how people can be warmth, home, honey and the rays of sunshine. How they can be the fresh morning wind and the twinkling stars at night. Sometimes I just pause, and think about it, and smile to myself.
How to create a study schedule for the holidays
Holidays are just that, holidays. However school and university doesnât always stop for them. Whilst youâre supposed to be relaxing, there is usually a stack of work waiting to be finished before you go back. After a couple of requests, Iâve put together a small guide to setting up (and following) a holiday study schedule. Keep reading to find out more:
Start early - most students (myself included) generally leave all their work until the last few days of the holidays, then they panic about not having enough time. As soon as youâre able, get started with your schedule. The sooner you start, the sooner all your work is done and youâre free to have a study free holiday. Plus starting early means that you will remember things from your last few classes. If youâve been off for two weeks and not thought about school, youâll have to review everything you did before school finish in order to jog your memory!
Write down everything that needs to be done - create a list of everything that you need to finish before you go back to school. I find it easiest to write everything in chronological order and separated by subject. For example, Iâd write âread chapter 2âČ, then âsummarises chapter 2âČ, then âcomplete review questionsâ. This way you can see everything you need to cover in the study plan.
Decide how long it will take - estimate how much time all your to-dos will take - maybe a day to type up your class notes, an afternoon to write an essay or an hour to finish a worksheet you didnât complete. Start fitting in each task around your holiday plans. If you have a spare hour, you could draft that essay you need to write. If youâre spending two hours in the car, print your notes and revise them. Before bed, read the flashcards that you made!
Plan it out - using a calendar or excel, make a schedule for your holiday. It could be daily, weekly, or monthly depending on which way you find it best to plan. Include all the tasks youâd want to complete in that time period. If you get bored easily, break it up into small time periods or change subjects after a few hours! Vary the tasks you need to complete. For instance, no-one wants to spend a day writing essay after essay. Spread them out across a few days and add other small, more fun tasks in between. Here is a study schedule I created which you can download and print! Here is an example of how to fill it out. Design it to what suits you the best, illustrate it or highlight it! Make it something you want to follow.
Take charge of improving your productivity - By planning out your time and setting up a schedule youâre attempting to improve your productivity. Since it is the holidays you donât want to be spending hours on end finishing work or revising. Find ways to keep yourself accountable for your time. Applications such as Forest or RescueTime are great for helping you stay focused. I also created a post with 10 small tips to improve your productivity. Have a read and try to apply some of them to your studying!
Stick with it - the best way to actually follow your study plan is by being motivated to use it. Put it in a place you see often, for instance near your bed or above your desk. Each morning, see what you need to do and try to get it done. Reward yourself for completing the tasks you need to and cross them off your schedule. However, donât be afraid to make changes to it. If you can get something do sooner, go ahead but if you miss a day, donât fret. Either reprint or retype your schedule with new plan!
Take time out - remember that it is your holiday and you donât need to work 24/7. Have a break, have ten. Take a day to binge watch your favourite show or read that book youâve wanted too. Donât feel bad about having some down time, you deserve it!Â
I hope this helps and you have a lovely holiday! Enjoy the printable I added into the post as well. If you use it, please tag me in any photo you upload! x
NEW SEMESTER TIPS
1. relax beforehand! donât try to learn any material (unless told to do a reading by the teacher) before the class begins! youâll wear yourself out and not really learn anything
2. get (or make) new supplies! no, you donât have to get new binders, but you could make some new binder covers for the new classes! make sure you have enough pens, paper, etc.
3. start a good habit! pick one (& just one, itâs easy to get overwhelmed by a ton of new habits) and start during the new semester. & it doesnât even have to be school related!
4. make a good first impression with teachers. introduce yourself, appear happy to be there and to learn, be prepared!
5. look for friends (or make friends!) in your classes. it will ALWAYS be helpful to have a friend or two in new classes. (hello, study buddy!)
6. get rid of clutter! clean out your room, backpack, etc before starting.
7. start with a FRESH MINDSET!!! donât go into the first day, or week with a bad mindset. even if you hate the subject, have heard bad things about the teacher or had a rough previous semster - STOP. this is your new beginning! just keep chugging along and working hard!!
Re-blog if you can write in cursive.
I heard cursive is dying. I want to see who still uses it.
study for your future. study to prove others wrong. study to make your parents proud. study to change something. study to reach your goals. study for yourself.

ix. lastly: some comments!
never feel pressured to give up something you love in order to satisfy someone else, or their expectations.Â
everyone fails. what matters is that you breathe in and dust yourself off, get going again.
do not feel lacking or inferior to others because you cannot do something they can. they, as well, are unable to do something that you can. we are in this manner distinct and separate individuals.
let no one but yourself define your limits ; nobody can tell you you arenât capable.Â
if you feel alone, let the future be a source of strength. know that if you try, if you reach out, you will find someone. the future brims with endless possibilities.Â
a setback is just another way to prove you let nothing stand in your way.
if you feel caged, grit your teeth and drive for freedom. you havenât tasted freedom, so why stop now?
take breaks, and never sacrifice your health for your work/studies/relationships. no one is allowed to tell you otherwise.
all righty, thats about it! i really hope this can be of help to anyone out there struggling. much love, take care!! <3

Tip for all my student readers: if youâre too lazy to use a bibliography creator like NoodleBib or RefWorks, let Google generate your bibliography entries for you. All you have to do is google the article/book title in Google Scholar, click âciteâ at the bottom of the search result, and copy either the MLA, APA, or Chicago cite into your word document.Â
WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS UNTIL NOW
IM SCREAMING.

How to Study Like a Harvard Student
Taken from Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld, daughter of the Tiger Mother
Preliminary Steps 1. Choose classes that interest you. That way studying doesnât feel like slave labor. If you donât want to learn, then I canât help you. 2. Make some friends. See steps 12, 13, 23, 24. General Principles 3. Study less, but study better. 4. Avoid Autopilot Brain at all costs. 5. Vague is bad. Vague is a waste of your time. 6. Write it down. 7. Suck it up, buckle down, get it done. Plan of Attack Phase I: Class 8. Show up. Everything will make a lot more sense that way, and you will save yourself a lot of time in the long run. 9. Take notes by hand. I donât know the science behind it, but doing anything by hand is a way of carving it into your memory. Also, if you get bored you will doodle, which is still a thousand times better than ending up on stumbleupon or something. Phase II: Study Time 10. Get out of the library. The sheer fact of being in a library doesnât fill you with knowledge. Eight hours of Facebooking in the library is still eight hours of Facebooking. Also, people who bring food and blankets to the library and just stay there during finals week start to smell weird. Go home and bathe. You can quiz yourself while you wash your hair. 11. Do a little every day, but donât let it be your whole day. âThis afternoon, I will read a chapter of something and do half a problem set. Then, I will watch an episode of South Park and go to the gymâ ALWAYS BEATS âStarting right now, I am going to read as much as I possibly canâŠoh wow, now itâs midnight, Iâm on page five, and my room reeks of ramen and dysfunction.â 12. Give yourself incentive. Thereâs nothing worse than a gaping abyss of study time. If you know youâre going out in six hours, youâre more likely to get something done. 13. Allow friends to confiscate your phone when they catch you playing Angry Birds. Oh and if you think you need a break, you probably donât. Phase III: Assignments 14. Stop highlighting. Underlining is supposed to keep you focused, but itâs actually a one-way ticket to Autopilot Brain. You zone out, look down, and suddenly you have five pages of neon green that you donât remember reading. Write notes in the margins instead. 15. Do all your own work. You get nothing out of copying a problem set. Itâs also shady. 16. Read as much as you can. No way around it. Stop trying to cheat with Sparknotes. 17. Be a smart reader, not a robot (lol). Ask yourself: What is the author trying to prove? What is the logical progression of the argument? You can usually answer these questions by reading the introduction and conclusion of every chapter. Then, pick any two examples/anecdotes and commit them to memory (write them down). They will help you reconstruct the authorâs argument later on. 18. Donât read everything, but understand everything that you read. Better to have a deep understanding of a limited amount of material, than to have a vague understanding of an entire course. Once again: Vague is bad. Vague is a waste of your time. 19. Bullet points. For essays, summarizing, everything. Phase IV: Reading Period (Review Week) 20. Once again: do not move into the library. Eat, sleep, and bathe. 21. If you donât understand it, it will definitely be on the exam. Solution: textbooks; the internet. 22. Do all the practice problems. This one is totally tiger mom. 23. People are often contemptuous of rote learning. Newsflash: even at great intellectual bastions like Harvard, you will be required to memorize formulas, names and dates. To memorize effectively: stop reading your list over and over again. It doesnât work. Say it out loud, write it down. Remember how you made friends? Have them quiz you, then return the favor. 24. Again with the friends: ask them to listen while you explain a difficult concept to them. This forces you to articulate your understanding. Remember, vague is bad. 25. Go for the big picture. Try to figure out where a specific concept fits into the course as a whole. This will help you tap into Big Themes â every class has Big Themes â which will streamline what you need to know. You can learn a million facts, but until you understand how they fit together, youâre missing the point. Phase V: Exam Day 26. Crush exam. Get A.
