5.17.2020
It’s been a busy weekend, friends! I know it looks like I read a whole lot, and I suppose in some ways I did, but at the same time, most of it was shorter plays. Combine that with the fact that I’m not reading these to analyze them, and it makes more sense that I could get through all four of these books yesterday and today. I know I had originally planned to read the Gibbon book over the course of next week, but I’ve been in a reading mood, so here we are.
13.08.
my favourite place. did nothing but reading today.

should i double major?
i love politics and i love economics. politics is my major and econ is my minor but i don’t know if I should officially have two majors, because it’s a lot of work especially spring semester senior year.
If i double major i get an extensive study of both politics and economics, and i graduate with two degrees. I’ll not be able to take any other classes besides those in those fields. I’ll also have a thesis and big exams due my senior year, either of which is a big academic feat to finish.
if i don’t double major, i can take classes in other fields that i’m interested in (i go to a liberal arts college, this is highly encouraged) which i really want to do. i’ll still have a minor in economics and a major in politics, so one degree with a minor. I’ll be able to go for breadth and not depth in all subjects, as i’ll have a random class each semester to take for general credits. Senior year I will just have my thesis.
i’m a second semester sophomore so i need to decide this now, and this decision will effect my classes immediately. I’m so conflicted about it. I’d still be able to graduate on time either way, and it will cost the same either way (which i know isn’t the case at all schools)
someone please help me with this!!!
econ final today!!!!
Searching active studyblrs
It feels like a bunch of studyblrs (and other blogs) I’ve been following have been taken over by pornblogs or are inactive. So if you’re active and ok with me queueing from you - like or reblog and I’ll follow!

BAD GRADES DO NOT MEAN YOU DIDN’T TRY. BAD GRADES DO NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE A FAILURE. BAD GRADES DO NOT MEAN YOU ARE STUPID. ALL BAD GRADES ARE ARE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN. TAKE THAT OPPORTUNITY. DO GREAT. I BELIEVE IN YOU.
I cannot stress this enough- Build a routine. Build Habits. Wake up every day and get used to being productive, one day at a time. Do this for long enough and eventually you’ll be at your goal without even realising it.
Hey ya’ll! I just wanted to tell you that I’m going to be active here really soon. thanks for sticking it out with me!
please stop reblogging sylvia plath poetry
For ppl asking why she’s an anti black, anti Semite. She has used the n word and compared her depression to the holocaust
Even not counting her poetry her private journals are full of disgusting, overblown antisemitism. She didn’t just use Jewish people for her metaphors, she outright hated them irl and yet decided to use their suffering for her own gain
here’s a source with some quotes
okay, I’m Jewish and I appreciate this sentiment. and if someone wants to cut out Sylvia Plath, go for it, I get it.
But. by this logic we’d also need to stop reblogging TS Eliot, Oscar Wilde, and Shakespeare quotes. Virginia Woolf wrote anti-semetic things in her private journals, too. If you only want to read classic poets who liked Jews and black people, that’s fine, but like. good luck? Sylvia Plath isn’t an exception.
idk. Tumblr’s attitude of “consume nothing problematic” just doesn’t work if you’re part of a group that most culture-creators over the last few centuries have hated by default. For people actually in those groups, it’s not like the only two choices are 1) worship authors who hate you or 2) completely cut the majority of literature out of your life. You learn to read critically and acknowledge flaws where you find them.
anyway, as a Jewish woman, I would much rather see a version of this post that said “please read Sylvia Plath poetry critically because she’s anti black and antisemetic” than just “stop reblogging Sylvia Plath poetry.”
IMO, reblog Sylvia Plath all you want, just not unthinkingly.
I’m reblogging this now because I’m seeing anti-Virginia Woolf discourse lately due to the antisemitism in her journals and like… as a Jewish person who loves Virginia Woolf’s writing and an English teacher who knows that pretty much every writer of the classics is Problematic just…chill pls
The point isn’t to never consume media that isn’t ideologically pure. That’s never the point. Were that the goal, we would NEVER be able to consume any media. Nothing is ever ideologically pure, especially as time goes on and our social consciousness expands.
We should be telling people instead, “Be critical as you read this person’s work. They held bigoted views. Understand how that is reflected in their work, and be mindful of it. Be critical, be thoughtful”
Compelling others to not engage with something at ALL on ideological grounds is in the same vein as burning books. We should be compelling others to be critical and mindful, not narrow and willfully ignorant.
This!!! I hate purity culture. Of course people from 100 years ago aren’t going to be “woke” or “unproblematic.” This doesn’t excuse their behavior, but it doesn’t mean that everything they do is tainted. Classic literature is good and while never should be held to a gold standard, it should still be read. Read with a critical eye. telling no one that they should read virginia woolf or sylvia plath on those grounds is stupid because they had legitimate things to say. If people want to boycott them, I understand, but don’t encourage others to do the same. Encourage people to be critical and read their work with a grain of salt.
ok universe, i’m ready to feel good things. make me feel good things.
whenever i post this it works reblog if u want to feel good things & the universe will bring u something sweet
