Tenna multi-media project update #5
I am officially halfway done with this project!
I have a feeling the second half may be easier than the first so I might be able to get this out during May which is crazy to say after the first part took 3 months but now I am more confident in my experience I’ve learned throughout the project and I’m ready to LOCK IN.
I am getting into scenes that are more spoilery so I can't reveal much of the stuff I'm currently working on.
I just wanted to talk about how many details there are in this because theres so much that I love and I wonder how many people will notice? Like how how Tenna and Elninas body/clothes revealing and visualizing their feelings
Or goofy little background stories and details that are completely unrelated to the main story.
You know when you listen to a song and just imagine a full on animation/animatic in your mind with characters you obsess over? Thats basically what happened to me and fun fact, this scene was the first thing I thought of for this project!
(Also, I think this is the first time I'm showing a finished scene from the project??)
This one scene I imagined, just thinking about how Tenna snaps at his employees and they flinch back, made me think about the ways in which Tenna treats his employees which then snowballed into a full on backstory sort of.
I’ve been waiting more than three months to finally see it drawn other than the storyboard and it’s kinda surreal to see it finished!
I’m gonna yap about my Tenna design for a bit. There's something that I wish I had noticed at the beginning of this project because I changed his design mid project and I’m kinda upset about it…
It’s Tenna’s ‘eyebrows’. I’ve seen the way people draw the eyebrows in the form of manipulating his casing and as soon as I started doing it IT JUST MADE SENSE. I know this is just a little design choice but this WHOLE time I always felt something was off about the way I draw him (at least to me) and I finally realized it when I had to draw something being displayed on his screen and couldn’t draw the eyebrows cuz it was black.
I’m also upset because this little detail makes sense for my interpretation of Tenna’s design story wise. Since Tenna can shrink and grow magically in game, I thought it would be neat if every part of himself was infused with a lil magic. Even his clothes like for example, I’ve seen many people give Tenna a tail of some sort that visually expressed his emotions- so while my design doesn’t have one I kinda subconsciously substituted his coattails as ‘tails’ where they emote and are more animated when hes performing, and kinda limp and dead when hes off-air.
I hate how late I figured out the eyebrow thing because you can see when the switch up happens in the video… nooo…
Also there are so many times for Tenna where I spend so long on certain pieces like his tie or tv brooch and it ends up getting covered anyway because I just forget different pieces lengths or by accident. It’s so sad to finish a little piece and then realize its going to be covered up anyway. I try to save these pieces for future scenes but most of the time they likely aren’t the right size/angle.
Sneak peak for an office sequence
Tenna is the main focus of this project and hes the only character where I create seperate pieces in order to replicate his 3d-ness and different rendering in game and the process typically looks like this for each Tenna:
I hope you have a lovely day/night!
