I had the opportunity to be involved with the Whistler Longboard Festival presented by Arbor Skateboards this past weekend.  Held at the Olympic Sliding Center, it's a gnarly course that starts off steep and fast and finishes tight and technical.  With two days of practice and time trials before race day, spectators had the chance to watch a lot of downhill skateboard action.  A mix of weather made things interesting on Sunday's race day, but that didn't keep spectators away from the mountain.  Arbor team riders represented well with 5 of the 7 on hand moving on past the first round of cuts.  James Kelly made the final without losing a single heat all day, but was unfortunately rubbed out by a fellow racer as he was taking the lead into the technical section of the course.  Check out www.whistlerlongboard.com for more info, pics and video of the festival.

Wrapping up another scorcher of a day at the Whistler Longboard Festival presented by Arbor Skateboards. Time trials ran today with average top speeds of 80 km/h. If you're in the area tomorrow come check out the action for race day with the finals running after lunch (there's also a beer garden). Will Arbor rider James Kelly be able to repeat on this technical track?
