WAKE UP SHEEPLE: Item builds are evil
Everyone and their mother (parents play league too) has had a game where the 0/3 Ryze is 25 minutes into the game, and has Tear and Catalyst, with magic pen boots and a blasting rod. These people are hurting themselves by not thinking about how to purchase items; instead opting to go by item builds they read elsewhere. What else can you *possibly* do?
I suggest paying attention in champ select, and asking yourself "What is my role going to be?" After you do that, you build to fill that goal, and adjust your build based on the situation.
For more detail (maybe too much even!), check out my blog.
Your bot lane always losing? This is probably why...
Your bot lane doesn't know how to trade, and is locked in terror of losing lane so much that their response to being pressured is to, you guessed it, lose lane hard. This is because they see trading as a zero-sum game, where if they are engaged on, all they can do is run and hope to engage next time.
This type of thinking is very common, and luckily super easy to overcome, which practice. For more information, details, and some pokemon references, check out my full write up!

"Push Mid and Win: Bronze Mentality or Lack Thereof"
Today I experienced firsthand, after a 47 minute game, the true problem with even mechanically okay Bronze players. They don't know what game they are playing. Instead, they have certain flowcharts that they feel are the 'key to winning,' regardless of the situation. The worst and most pervasive of these mantras is: Just push mid as 5, guys, and we'll win.
For the full story, check out: http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/09/quick-rant-push-mid-and-win.html
Only 11 of the 27 champs Riot's tagged "mages" as their primary role have higher than a 3.0 combined AP ratio. Only 4 of those 11 have 4.0 combined ratio, and only 1 champ has one higher than 5.0. Can you guess who they are? Only 9 (NINE!) of the listed champs have base damage on spells over 1500. Of those, THREE have burst over 2000 damage. Ever wondered *How* much damage Zyra's plants add to her kit? Elise's Spiderform? Find out those and more at http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/08...patch-415.html (Spoilers, this is actually just a plug for my blog: I post about every patch I'm around for; new champion predictions after a piddly one game of trying them, for maximum foot-in-mouth effect; practical low level tips and tricks, plus higher level analysis; and occasionally give-aways--all while subtly instilling grammar, composition, and vocabulary through the power of the written word [technically my X-Mas give away is still open, as no one has reached me here, at twitter, or in the blog's comments to claim it])
Patch Notes 4.15: GNAR (!!)
Gnar got buffs, Rumble got a buff-fix, and Urgot proves to still exist. For a more detailed look, check out my blog: http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/08/analysis-patch-415.html
Finally got out of Silver 5
Seriously, I've been up to like silver 3 or 2, and making progress in silver 5 is the hardest thing ever.
For what it's worth tho, if you look at my kdas (these aren't the most current I guess, but http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/19744968#matches), you'll see that part of how I got out was just not dying very much. Even in the games as support, I usually have an excellent death: assist ratio.
Not dying, and getting objectives are the most important thing you can do to improve your games. If the teamfight could either go one for one and everyone else lives, or 2 for 2 and you die, go for the one for one, and most likely that second kill you'll get for free when they overextend or chase you.
You're always told "Watch Good Players' as a way to Improve...
But you watch sports all the time, and that doesn't make you godly at basketball. To get something out of watching good players play, you need to be actively watching.
See HOW they do something (like get amazing cs). See WHEN they do something (fight in lane, take dragon, buy items, etc). Ask WHY they bought a certain item in that situation.
To practice, make everything a competition. Predict what they'll do after a fight, when they buy, when the enemy jungler is around, and then chart the results of your prediction. As you gain gamesense (in reality, a larger pool of data points to match the situations to), you'll notice your predictions are right more and more, and you'll have more insight as to why your predictions are wrong.
As always, see an EVEN WORDIER article on this http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/05/low-elo-tips-watch-better-players.html
Jax: when you should pick him in low elo!
If he's unbanned, and you are top, mid, or jungle. Seriously, as long as you know how to farm (and it's really easy with his w), pick him, farm, and poke them down with e->q->w when they over extend, especially into your minion wave
Graves' Comeback: My thoughts
Graves has been popping up in the EU LCS, and I'm pretty sure that the reason is that his burst (3 damage spells, fast cast, and easy to hit with) help change the dynamics of the fight against Lucian/Twitch, who both deal great DPS over time (multiple hits from Lucian Passive, and Contaminate needing stacks to deal max damage)
If you wanna see this in MORE WORDS (amirite?) check out st-viers.blogspot.com
Forgotten God of Low Elo: Shen Mini Guide
Reason to Play: In low elo, there are 2 things that can almost single-handedly win you the game.
1) Outfarming your lane opponent.
2) Keeping your idiot adc from dying over and over.
Legit, in bronze silver, that second one is super useful. The difference in skill level between your adc and theirs is probably not that high, and the gold/xp swing from just 1 successful 'death prevention' is really huge. Even if your adc is ass not the best, if you let them die, the game ends at like 23 minutes, with your bot lane still around lvl 7.
Shen is great at both of these things. His q and passive make getting last hits easy, and his itemization makes surviving in lane pretty easy (though strong burst tops like renek make shen cry a bit), though you have almost no kill potential early.
Itemization: If you get really ahead, or the enemy team has 2+ bruisers (top+jungle/support), the damage item you want on shen is BotRK. It gives attack speed, more sticking power, and the ability to win wet noodle fights while you're peeling for your team. If their team's main threat is from their adc/mage/assassin, get triforce--the extra burst you get from it can secure the kill on them at the start of the fight.
Pretty useful items on him are Randuins (it's one of the best items in the game, but it's tank scaling and Shens ability to dive make it very good on him), Sunfire Cape (as a first item, it lets you push your lane, which is otherwise very tedious), Banshee's Veil (If you intercept an Ult with your taunt+BV, you basically win any low-elo teamfight). If you are behind but *need* a damage item, Wit's End is cheap and efficient.
As always you can see a more detailed post: http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/05/forgotten-champions-shen.html
4.7 Patch notes summary
Feral Flare got hit pretty hard, but now you can gain stacks towards its transformation through kills and assists, so it's less confining to buy.
Several champions saw minor changes, but nothing that drastically changes the game.
For a full report, look here: http://st-viers.blogspot.com/2014/05/analysis-patch-notes-47.html
TL;DR version: it's not a bad item, but it makes your team comp and game plan very static.
Low Elo Tips: Eve!
1. Don't blindly follow recommended build--ad is actually very useful on her now that q and e have ratios. Spirit Lizard and Botrk is very strong on Eve.
2. Try and gank from enemies jungle--that way you can get behind them without revealing yourself. If Blue side, easy ganks top, and purple side the same bot.
3. Build some tankiness. You should be chasing them down, so make sure you can live to do that!

Silver 3!
Promo Game 1: Teemo v Nasus (7/9/15)
Teamfights were rough, but I wrecked nasus in lane, and after out adc's internet stabalized, we won.
Promo Game 2: Panth v Nidalee (6/5/6)
I won lane hard, going like 3-0-1 in early game. Our bot lane fed hard, and eventually out jungler afked and we lost a close game
Promo Game 3: Renekton v Jax (7/4/13)
Easy game. Jax lost a huge fight early, and when he got back to lane there was a 4 level and 15 cs difference that scaled to a 60 cs difference by the end of the game. I also managed to get perfect cs for the first 8 waves or so ^_^ Mid stomped, and bot went even, so perfect tempo game to get into Silver III
