I live in a world where instead of staring at peggy creepily and rummaging thru her office, steve rogers went back in time to brooklyn in the 1920s and watched a single mother picking her bloody, bruised boy off the ground. the perspective changed from steve watching them, to steve being the boy. his mother holds him gently, but with an iron grip. she tells him, you always stand up. you always stand up.
when steve is on the ground in the final battle, body broken and failing, his breath wheezing and his teeth stained red, he hears his mother’s voice in his ear. he remembers who he is. he’s not the guy who sits in basements mourning, he is not the guy who lets his grief or sorrow or pain demobilize him. no matter how much the world throws at him, he cannot let it keep him down. he is the man who stands up when no one else can. when no one else wants to. when he thinks even his own poor legs can’t hold him.
he stands up, looks thanos in the eyes, and says, finally believing it, “I can do this all day”
#Steve was robbed of a backstory like we’re getting for Wanda now#they purposely didn’t want us to see it because they wanted him to be a wasp at the end#and seeing Sarah would have shown us that she was an Irish Catholic immigrant who raised a sick boy on her own#and that his bravery and stubbornness came from her#not Peggy#his best fried from childhood and the person who took him in when Sarah died was Bucky and his family#Steve grew up with a family but it wasn’t a nuclear one#and that doesn’t sell with Disney#they wanted to make Peggy his whole past#make his very lackluster canon romances the central thing to his story in the last five minutes#when really they’re not the things we’ve seen him willing to die for#he didn’t save Bucky because of a sense of duty#he saved him because he loved him#no matter how you look at it#Steve Rogers is not a man who abandons his friends#especially not for a woman who made her life’s work to work against him (notice this applies to both Carters)#they destroy that then they destroy Steve#also not lost on me that WV and FATWS wouldn’t happen if Steve didn’t leave for the past#if he was there for his friends#and if he’d given Vision a proper burial instead of letting SWORD take it for some reason#that’s not Steve#+.+#steve rogers (via @cosmicmechanism)
Now why would you bury that in the tags @cosmicmechanism ? this is A+ 👌
