White Butterfly White butterflies are a symbol of hope. They represent positive transformations and changes, such as starting a new chapter in life. They are seen as a divine message or act of guidance from the angels or spiritual guides. They are a reminder to relax and to let go of high expectations one may have of themselves.
Some cultures view them as a symbol of good luck and fortune whilst others may connote white butterflies with death. Native Americans see them as a symbol of rain, sleep & dreams, whilst the Irish perceive them as the departed souls of children or the young. Several literatures relate the white butterfly to love and transformation.
Black Butterfly Black butterflies have a dual nature, with some seeing them as positive signs and others seeing them as negative omens. They represent thunderstorms, misfortune and positive change. They may represent an end to a task or project, relationship or way of life, similar to how the Death Tarot card represents end and rebirth. Black butterflies are a symbol of powerful transformation.
Central America, Philippines and China view black butterflies as negative symbols, representing a recent death or death/illness to come. Celtic legends see black butterflies as individuals who haven’t moved on in the afterlife, who wish to stay on the earth. Other cultures view the black butterfly as a witch.
In Aztec mythos, the goddess Itzpapalotl is associated with black butterflies, representing change, transitions, rebirth and the end to misfortunes.
Blue Butterfly They mainly symbolise an individual’s spiritual purpose and wishes. They invoke emotions of melancholy and nostalgia as they represent the past and memories. Seeing one is a sure sign that a period of reflection is upon you. Ask yourself if you have been honest with who you are and who you wish to be, as well as honesty towards others. They also represent tranquility and peace, nobility and dreams. They are a sign of the subconscious.
Some cultures believe the blue butterfly to be a symbol of good luck and blessings due to their rarity, whilst other cultures may see them as a malcious spirit. In Christianity, blue butterflies represent the Virgin Mary.
Purple Butterfly Rarer than the others, purple is the colour of the mystical and the spiritual, with purple butterflies representing spiritual and mystical powers, such as enlightenment, intuition, psychic gifts, wisdom and connection with other or higher realms. This is a sign that greater insight or introspection is needed to help one on their life path. They represent the individual’s variety and richness in their creativity and imagination.
Purple butterflies also represent nobility and noble actions, as well as visions and clairvoyance. They are a reminder of your good traits and a message to use them wisely and to share with others your good fortune. They ask that you be patient and to have courage within yourself.
Red Butterfly These butterflies represent power/powerful energy and the dead. They’re considered an omen of respect, so tread lightly. They’re seen as a messenger of important news, as well as symbolising passion, intense romance, love and anger. They’re a promise of good fortune and happiness to come, as well as a warning to pay close attention to what is happening around you.
In Scotland, they’re often believed to represent a witch, whilst the Native Americans view them as omens of importance, of a huge change or upheaval in your life. Koreans view them as a negative omen, an evil spirit that grants vision problems or even blindness in an individual.
Orange Butterfly Orange butterflies are a symbol of passion, joy, and life. They represent enthusiasm, optimism, creativity, and action. They represent new opportunities and changes happening or appearing in your life, as well as a message to change your perspective or view/opinions on a certain topic, to be more open-minded.
If you’ve been struggling lately, the orange butterfly is a reassurance that you are on the right track and to think positively about the changes in your life. They ask you to stay on track with your goals, to stay focus and to reach out to others & be sociable, as they are also a symbol of friendship and partnership.
Yellow Butterfly Yellow butterflies represent creativity & joy. They are a sign of life and health, emotional and spiritual activation. They may be seen as a symbol of prosperity, good fortune and confidence, and they also reflect the solar energy of the sun.
The Native American’s viewed them as a message of hope and guidance, while Irish folklore believes them to be the souls of the young and dearly departed. To the Chinese, they are an expression of love and Old English beliefs believe them to be an omen of illness such as fevers or colds. Old Christian beliefs see yellow butterflies as representations of the soul.
Monarch Butterfly To see this butterfly is a powerful symbol! The Monarch butterfly represents rebirth and spiritual transformation. They’re a spiritual encouragement to move on or start a new project, a message from your angels that you’re on the right track. They are also a symbol of travel and protection.
The monarch butterfly asks you to reconnect with what makes you happy and to follow your passions.
In Dreams 🦋
Butterflies in dreams represent rebirth, creativity, transitions and growth, romance, joy & spirituality. They also represent mental tasks such as thoughts, ideas and the expression of your mental processes.
Butterflies are considered a symbol of transformation, of growth and growing into one’s self. It may also be a warning to focus and settle your thoughts, that you may be acting too “flighty”, jumping from one thing to the next.
