Of Frost and Fire

Chapters: 3/52 Fandom: Rise of the Guardians, How To Train Your Dragon (Movies) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Relationships: Jack Frost/Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, Jack Frost & E. Aster Bunnymund Summary: Jack Frost and E. Aster Bunnymund haven’t been getting along recently. Ever since defeating Pitch seven months ago, things have gotten better between the two, but a few months is hardly enough time to get over forty years of dislike and distrust. After the two screw up a battle due to their fighting, they find themselves waking up powerless in the Viking Ages. Jack and Bunny their best to find a way to return to their own time, but higher powers and fate seem to have other plans for them. Bunny’s past begins to haunt him as he struggles with an abrupt transformation, and Jack, used to being invisible, finds himself gravitating towards this new life—especially to one brand new Chief of Berk, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. In which Jack and Bunny are thrown back into the Viking Age—Jack gets comfortable, Hiccup sucks at dealing with his own grief, and Bunny is forcibly sentenced to Viking Babysitting. At least there’s cool dragons.

Finally! After at least five solid months of planning, I was finally able to start writing this thing.

This will be a long ride, will probably take 1-3 years, so buckle up!

Had to dust off my old rotg faves, wow

First off—basically anything by Eastofthemoon on AO3. They have *a lot* of Bunny fics including one-shots and longfic with various portrayals of Jack and Bunny’s relationship. I really liked Kid Brother (brotherly) and Touch of Magic as well as their Steampunk AU series (Papa Bunny). I didn’t think I’d like Papa Bunny till I read their fics

This one’s a special shout-out but—King of Cold Mountain by guardianofscrewingup, Juliet_Anders, et al. It’s listed as Jack/Tooth, but it’s mostly plot and features Jack & Bunny. I’d just highly rec their series The Guardian of Screwing Up in general

All this to say—I’m also a HiJack fan so I was psyched to read your fic. So nice to see HiJack + Bunny combined!

just wondering, what make you wanna write your hijack fic

Was listening to “Another Believer” from Meet The Robinson’s (great song and amazing movie) and had the most basic of a time travel fic in mind, opened TikTok and immediately saw a HiJack post and went “…well shit, why not.”

What kind of bunny-centric fics do you prefer? I have read a couple cool Jack-and-Bunny but admittedly they’re more brotherly or Bunny is the parent figure type. Not sure if that’s your thing?

Almost any dynamic between them is a lot of fun! Don’t think I’ve ever read one that had Bunny as a parent type figure, that one is interesting. If you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them :)

i want to put my thoughts behind this: this was supposed to be a piece for pride month, titled "you were loved". the sky is the color of the aroace flag (just upside down)!

basically, i wanted to show an aroace person — an old aroace person, to be precise. being aroace myself, i am always told that i will forever be lonely and miserable if i don't get a partner. so showing grace, who is aroace to me, as old and happy and fulfilled and oh so loved by his best friend, was really important to me <3

I let the voices win and now I’m planning a long ass time travel HiJack fic featuring Bunny.

Updates on the long term HiJack fic that no one asked for! I like using Tumblr like a public diary, get to scream my thoughts out into a void.

The fic is decided to be approximately 48 chapters, though that number might be flexible, even when I actually start writing and posting.

The plot is decided and fleshed out, with the beginning, middle, and end mapped out. It will be a slowburn action/romance, of course, as I am legally required to write only those and nothing else. (This is a joke, I am not legally required, but it’s my favorite thing to write.) This will be my slowest slowburn yet.

The villain is decided, the how they get there and back is completed, and chapters 1-10 are fully planned out with 200 word summaries of what happens for each.

All I need now is to fully plan the other 36 chapters, do/look for character studies on Jack, Hiccup, and Bunny, and do some research on Norse Mythology and Viking customs. Additionally, I might as well rewatch all the HTTYD series (including the Riders of Berk, RTTE, and specials.)

Lastly, I need to come up with a name, but that can wait until after I’ve finished the planning and am ready to start writing.

Second update, last one:

- Chapter count was upped to 51 plus a prologue. Once again, number might be flexible, but it’s getting less likely.

- 40 chapters are planned out, plus individual character arcs.

- Did a bunch of research over different mythologies and Viking customs! However, I might get some things wrong, so don’t burn me at the stake if I do.

- I came up with a name, “Of Frost and Fire”

All I need now is to finish planning the outline—I dropped having to do 1k words per chapter outline, and will revisit the later outlines as I write, but the general idea is mapped out!

So far, it’s planned that the prologue + Chapter 1 will be released late this month or early July.

That’s all! Time to close the Tumblr Diary for now.
