Sophia, concept art process

This is the current design of Witch Night Flight's protagonist. I have had some struggles on landing the design at first as I'm not much of a good artist. I ended up using picrew to do the first visualization of her design before putting my pen to work.

(template link here ) Picrew is a good tool for a quick character idea visualization, but one should not rely on it for everything. Especially for a project that's intended to be public rather than a roleplaying game with friends. Then I drew the first instance of her

As you can see, the template influenced me on the closing design at first. But it felt unoriginal, then I needed to refine the design before proceeding, changing the color scheme to make the purple and fuchsia stand out more than the red.

The design was meant to be easy to cosplay as, but it was failing the recognizability test, outside of the context, it's just a girl with a bow and a frilled dress with heterochromia. This led me to redesigning her from the ground up. My first attempt was giving a bird motif on the bow.

After that I redrew her twice, the second time going for a more abstract version of a wing and completely ditching the frilled dress, landing on the current design
