Christian knew perfectly well that it was always an adjustment for the patients to get used to doctors and nurses coming and going at all hours, whether they were in the emergency room or upstairs in one of the wards, but if she was exhibiting any underlying cardiovascular problems that required more than an exam, at least she would have him as her one and only doctor for the remainder of her stay and maybe that would be a little more comforting for her over all.Â
Noticing the flicker of the light above the bed, he sighed softly and shook his head. âSorry about that. Theyâve been meaning to get that thing fixed for I donât know how long now.â He had made the mistake of bombarding her with more questions than he probably should have at one time, and it didnât occur to him until she insisted he slow down. Cringing at his temporary idiocy, he pressed his fist to his forehead. âRight. Iâm so sorry, sweetheart. I wasnât thinking.â He looked back up at her, offering her a soft and reassuring smile. âWe can go slow. Whenever youâre ready.â He listened carefully as she relayed the information to him, nodding his head in regard, suddenly turning his attention to the monitor as her heart started to beat even faster. Reaching out, he set a comforting hand on her shoulder then her backside. âShh, shh, shhâŚitâs alright, sweetheart, just try and relax for me. Long deep breaths, just focus on the sound of my voice. Iâm going to put you on some oxygen, alright?â Looking around the curtained area, he set the chart in his hand down and pulled out an oxygen mask, attempting to slip it over her head. âThis is going to help you breathe, okay sweetheart?â
Quinn gave the doctor a small smile when he apologized for the light, âYeah, itâs okay, is just not helping with the headacheâ, she brought a shaky hand to her forehead and hissed when it came in contact with the stitches.  She was grateful when he said they could go slow and she could take her time, âThank you, my mind just...itâs all foggy and...confusingâ, she was trying to put her thoughts in order so she could answer all his questions, in any other circumstances Quinn always tries to be clear and on point when visit the doctor, knowing they relay on the information the patient gives them so it has to be honest and concrete. However this time she was having a hard time getting her brain to work with her.Â
âIâm sorry, Iâm not usually this slow, I just...â, she thought of what had put her in this state, the mugger, the gun, the hit, all the images came back to her and she felt her heart beating like drums again and her breathing became faster and more shallow. She could hear the fast beeping of the heart monitor and then his voice, it wasnât until he touched her that she paid any attention to what he said and she began trying to do what he told her. She was trying to take deep breaths but couldnât seem to get a lung filled one, so she focus on only his voice. When he put her the oxygen mask she tried again to take deep breaths and she looked up at him helplessly while she tried to regulate her breathing. She put her hand on the mask and pulled it down a little so she could talk, âThank youâ, she whispered before putting the mask back on.Â
