I'm sorry but, Scar and Scott in past life (especially episode 4) are genuinely so amazing to me. I wanna just analyze everything about their interactions with each other, the context, how their interactions differ or are the same as how they interact with others, what their dynamic is, etc. I'm definitely not okay, but I blame it on the fact that I can't get the idea of the Watchers absolutely seething at their favorite and most hated players having such a good relationship with each other.
Because how dare Scott, their most hated player, the one consistently making the games less entertaining to watch, the one that they get the least from, the one they could only hope to irreparably break, have such a close and (in my opinion) healthy friendship with Scar, their favorite, the one they purposely isolated in secret life, the one that they probably had a hand in isolating (even if to a lesser extent) in previous games. How dare Scott be a consistent presence for Scar, the person consistently reassuring Scar and backing him up, the one who refuses to jump to assumptions about someone with so many assumptions to be made about them. How dare Scott make Scar's time in the game less enjoyable for the Watchers, to watch, to feed off of, to be in charge of.
I'm absolutely falling apart comparing Scar in past seasons, what he's done, how people reacted to him, misunderstandings, how his allies treated him, who his allies were, etc. to how he and Scott are. I can't tell if I see them as family or friends but I feel like Scott (so far) is Scar's person, the one that grounds him, stands up for him, and doesn't exclude Scar from anything purposefully without good reason.
Cause like, Scar has been being purposefully isolated for a while, I still have to figure out what season I think they started isolating him but the point still stands. And the Watchers must be so upset that they haven't been able to isolate Scar (in large part) due to Scott and how loyal he is (even though that entire team has been giving him grey hairs all season). And it's not even the fact that it's Scott that's pissing them off so much (even if it doesn't help). It's the fact that the running theme of their psychological conditioning through strategic isolation can't happen when the target, in this case Scar, has even one good, completely loyal or trusting ally. Just the fact that Scar has an ally that won't jump to conclusions even if the evidence looks damning, like with the improv group's deaths, is already hindering the Watchers so much. Because honestly, from an outside perspective, it's really easy to assume Scar was purposefully trying to kill Martyn or his teammates when he wasn't and while everyone had a right to be angry, Scott's first reaction was to rationalize Scar's actions instead of assuming the worst. This alone is huge because there have been many times throughout the games that Scar has made mistakes or done something without thinking that ended terribly for him (losing allies, gaining enemies, losing a life, just bad outcomes in general).
The fact alone that Scott's being understanding and not jumping to, understandable, conclusions is preventing easy miscommunications and misunderstandings between, not just him and Scar but, others (on and off their team) and Scar must make it so difficult for the Watchers to do anything with/to Scar. Because he seems to be most susceptible to them when he's been left alone for too long or abandoned (likely some psychological thing like trauma or a fear but I can't get into that right now). But, I think Scar has a much better reputation currently than he usually does at this point in the series especially because barely anyone is after/hates Scar specifically as opposed to hating his entire team.
