She refused to believe it. Outrealms and Dragon Gates be damned, that couldn’t be him. But then who else could bear such a resemblance– down to tint of his hair and that ancient lineage she knew too well. How many times would fate play with her like this? The revelation left her frozen and had it not been for such interference, Luna might have been d e a d. It took her too long to break out of the trance and when she did she couldn’t help but hear it now. There was a familiarity in his voice that had gone unnoticed before. Rex he’d been called. It couldn’t be.
Steeling herself a moment, she cast her maroon gaze to the approaching woman. It’d be a pain to have to pay, but now it was certain they wouldn’t be winning this fight. “ I think that’ll depend on how much you’re asking. I’m not too fond of having to p a y for my life. ” Keeping careful watch on the axe wielder, she retrieved her fallen sword– when had it slipped her grasp?– and turned attention again to the man. There was no way she was leaving without knowing.
Even if it was nothing but a disappointment in the end. It was bound to keep her up late at night should she never ask.
“ You there! Rex, was it…? ” She prayed they didn’t hear the bit of nerves in her voice. “ You spoke of someone dear to you… What was their name? ”
Her name? Why did this stranger want to know her name? Perhaps he shouldn’t be too surprised. After all, he did bring it up during their fight. The masked man would look back at her, frowning from under his mask. Before he got a word out, he was interrupted.
“Look, honey.” The axe-wielder. She approached her, a smile on her face. “Just because you as, doesn’t mean you get an-”
“Jasper.” Rex interrupted her this time. “It’s fine. Really.”
“....Tch. We’ll talk about money later, Mercenary Girl. You hear me?” She wondered off back to her post, sighing as she let her axe swing at her side. Rex watched her leave, returning his gaze to the girl that looked so much like-
“Severa. Her name is Severa.” Rex told the other her name. “She was my wife. We had a child named Umbra. He’s gone and grew up before I knew it.. and..well.. I guess I wondered to the edge of the world and... ended up here.” He told her honestly. “I was here when Jasper was a little girl. I watched her grow up and become a violent tyrant she is.” He crossed his arms. “But my heart remains loyal.. Despite all the years.”
He sounded sad. Yet.. there was acceptance in his voice. As if he would never be able to see the other again... However, he had a small hope that he’d see her again. Whenever that was, he didn’t know.
