watched a tutorial on cross-stitching and thought the guy said "we'll call this fabric ava." i was fully ready to accept that he'd named his fabric ava, like okay, what are we calling the thread? estelle? until i looked up "fabric with holes for cross-stitching" and realised the guy had said "we call this fabric aida," referring to aida cloth. which is what you do cross-stitching on.

when i was younger and my brother played minecraft i discovered the term bug for when the game didn't work like it was supposed to, and my brother explained that bug also meant fly/insect. and when he talked about mods i thought he was talking about moths (in dutch a d at the end of a word is pronounced like a t so i thought he said mot which means moth). so for a few years i lived in a beautiful world where computer terms were called after little animals <3

in hadestown there are several mentions of organics like flowers, trees, "mother nature", etcetera. nature plays a big role, persephone and hades control the seasons and in turn the harvest.

yet the set is very industrial with no nature. there are some flowers here and there, but nothing permanent. all the nature is imaginary – a dream, a hope...

hadestown headcanon: orpheus is deaf.

he didn't hear eurydice calling for him, he doesn't hear her and the others behind him reassuring him they're still there when they're leaving hadestown

"you heard?"

"no"

he can only hear the gods, because he "was touched by the gods" – that's also how he knows the old melody. and that's why hermes hangs around him, he acts as orpheus' interpreter (though it's debatable how reliable he is)

he can play his guitar lyre thanks to the vibrations. perhaps he wasn't always deaf. perhaps the melody is the only thing he remembers from before he became deaf

when i was very young my parents gave me an mp3 player for my birthday. they put some songs on it, but i didn't know that it was my parents who'd done that, i thought the mp3 player came with those songs

so little christian me was like "wow it's so good that everyone who buys an mp3 player gets to listen to christian songs! :)"
