An interesting review of number one bestselling author, Chris Colfer's debut Young Adult novel, “Stranger Than Fanfiction.”
This book tells the story of Tilly's life growing up, and her belief that her mother is undead and actually a vamp-mother-it-thing.
" Tilly's mum pretends to be nice and polite to the outside world, but Tilly knows she hides dark secrets, but she will find out when she is old enough. Part memoir about growing up with an abusive parent, part Gothic horror story - these things easily merged together. Set in a forgotten city, the themes are sex, suicide, growing-up, Christmas, and humour (dark). “

Did you choose your character name and persona?
Originally I was going to be called 'The Headmistress'. Then during rehearsals Bradley Walsh, the presenter, started referring to me as 'The Governess', and I said to the producers, 'Can I be called that instead? It's more kinky.' By which I really meant that a governess is more of a free agent - she doesn't have a board of governors to answer to.
The persona did change a little during rehearsals. Originally she was going to be more sort of creepy, like a cross between Daphne Fowler from Eggheads and Caroline Ahearne as Mrs Merton (two UK references you won't get!), sort of an innocently smiling assassin. But a friend of mine said I wouldn't be able to sustain that, so I became more bluntly dismissive.
It's like, I was going to be Professor Umbridge, now I'm Professor McGonagall.
I didn't want that grey suit either - I wish they'd put me in something more flattering!
Everybody loves books! Or at least in my mind they should. There are so many authors within each genre that it is often difficult to pinpoint a favourite. Having not read much in the horror genre, I am having a great time interviewing different horror writers to find out about their lives and their stories, what makes people want to write about exploding bodies, zombies, vampires and blood? Suzanne Robb tells us why she writes horror.
What is your favourite LEGO?
Man, starting with the tough questions! If I had to choose, it would be The Haunted House they released in their Monster series. Has all sorts of fun things, and zombies.
I have not seen that one! If it has spiders, you can keep it!
There are a couple
Okay, an easier question for you, you said that you write across genres, do you have a favourite?
Right now I am really enjoying what would be best categorized as Urban Fantasy it is lots of fun, a made up world and reverse mythology, I am having a blast with it.
Could you explain what Urban Fantasy encompasses for those oldies amongst us that only know sci-fi, romance, horror and other basic categories?
I am still trying to grasp it, but it is mainly a world like ours where magic, fantasy, mythology and what not are the norm. Like living next door to a werewolf is totally normal, having a vampire run a blood bank is a good idea. That type of thing. Fantasy in today’s setting if that makes sense.
That sounds like my kind of town!

One part of FACES is a parent's network. This allows us to reach out to other families going through similar experiences and getting a "human spin" on things.
Explain to me how important the fundraising is for Alicia, Hannah and other children like them.
[Julie] It is her self-described “favorite day of any year”! Alicia’s heart is as big as my house and for her to feel like she is “giving back” is indescribable. It is also great for other kids with various issues to see her get on a stage and shine even though she’s had so many hardships. She wants to prove that anyone can have their dream no matter what!
[Karyn} When Julie told me about FACES I jumped on board. I was honored that she asked me to speak at the benefit. We may live on opposite sides of the US but we care greatly about educating the public, and building a bridge between the medical, educational and socialization of what it has been like for our daughters and other children.
